Game using 70% of GPU

I have been experiencing lag spikes frequently every few minutes for the past 3 days. For a second, the screen will freeze and return to the game as normal, repeating that cycle over and over.

Specs:
-CPU: Ryzen 5 5600
-GPU: Radeon RX 6700 XT 12GB VRAM
-Service Provider: Spectrum
-Server: Brynhildr, Crystal DC

What I have done to attempt to fix the lag spike:
-Limited frame rate to 60 FPS
-Dropped resolution to default
-Used Standard graphics settings
-Ran game as administrator
-Ensured that steam and ffxiv are on the same drive
-Turned off discord and steam overlays
-Restore the game files to check for corrupted files

I don't believe it's a wifi issue as neither my upload nor download speeds have changed (upload speed as of writing this: 22.81mbps). When I checked task manager, I noticed it was reporting a 70% utilization rate on my GPU where it didn't before, caused pretty much single-handedly by ffxiv. I only experience this utilization on more modern games and no other game has had this lag issue for me.

Any other fixes would be appreciated. If any more information is needed, please let me know

Could you provide the exact error message received, if any?
Are you running any additional programs alongside Final Fantasy XIV?
Does the issue occur with one character or multiple characters?
When the issue happens, is the PC over heating at all?
Were any update or changes made to the PC around the time of the issue?
Does this issue occur if the game is run in full screen mode? Does it happen in borderless or windowed mode?

Could you provide a system report? Simply go to the 'Config' option on the Final Fantasy XIV launcher and to the right of 'System Information' click on 'Display.

I use Steam. The stutter occurs at any given point every few minutes regardless of location or amount of people.

I don't receive an error message so much as the game freezes for a second then comes back for a few minutes before freezing again, and when the game starts, the GPU utilization skyrockets to 70-75%. I run Discord and Firefox usually, but that hasn't given me problems until recently. I have only noticed this on the one character, but I haven't played the other in a while. My GPU and CPU both run at around 55C-60C when the game is running. The only updates I have made were regular windows updates, including one I installed today. I only play this game in windowed mode, but I did test in the other two versions, and the GPU utilization stayed around 70-75%.

Good morning! Thank you for posting in the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

Please try the following:
- Update and reinstall the drivers for your graphics card and sound drivers (if applicable). It appears that your GPU [AMD Radeon™ RX 6700 XT] driver was last updated on [11/26/2024], at this time there should be a newer version available. Should the issue persist, please try a clean reinstall instead.

- Please try adjusting/lowering the resolution.
- Please try running the game as an administrator.
- Perform a clean boot by opening the task manager and select the 'Start up' Tab. Disable everything.
- Please be sure to disable or remove any overlays (Discord, Steam, NVIDIA etc.) as they may interfere with startup.
- Make sure that the Windows OS is fully updated.
- Verify installation files (Steam).
- Reinstall game (If steam version, try uninstalling and reinstalling both the game and Steam).

There is no issue when a gaming using high GPU %. The Goal is that your GPU is always at 99%, otherweise you would lose performance. With unlocked framerate this is often the case, in more demanding places like Limsa, it can drop due to many players (CPU-bound).

However, it sould not freeze - if this happens, there is another serious issue.


Please try uninstall Citrix, this is known as a problem with games.
