I find it crazy that people actually complain about having to play in a video game... " you forcing me to play a video game!?"I kinda miss the seasonal bosses that WoW had, like the Greench and Coren Direbrew. I wouldn't mind if they had a trial that returned each year that you can get new rewards each time it comes back. Can have like a level 50 version and a max level hard version.
As for people crying about your idea being too much work...well it's why we now have events where all you do is talk to a couple NPCs. They complain about the game being too much work then complain about the game being dumbed down.
if all they want to do is read then go play the library simulator game.
I would find a real boss that you can do much more interesting, my complaint is the idea of doing random FATEs, that you would need to wait around for them to respawn, even if they respawned frequently, and it would be dead in moments cuz of player density, at least in the first few days of the event(something that is already an issue every time they rerun Yokai Watch), and you better be quick on the gun or you'd have to wait all over again, but something you could que for and even form farm parties for would be far more amicable.
You are really misrepresenting what people are saying, we are mostly arguing against busywork, your suggestions are Society daily quest-caliber content and FATE grinding, neither of which most people would consider engaging in any capacity.

In the devs' haste to water down gameplay and enable an almost entirely solo experience in an online game, I genuinely think some people have forgotten they're playing an MMO and not a chat room with some combat-based side content.
And I don't think FFXIV has ever had any seasonal-based rewards that required grinding that you couldn't complete in under an hour.
I really like what you thinking! They could use the Mogpendium format for it too
Journey trough the snow:
Complete Stone vigil - 5 flakes
Complete Snowcloak - 5 flakes
Complete Lapis Manalis - 5 flakes
Etc etc
Queen of frost:
Defeat Shiva (Hard) - 10 Flakes
Cold catch:
Fish the Matriarch - 50 Flakes
Etc etc... they could expand it to almost every aspect of the game, tag snoflakes into roulettes too and boom, you have lots of incentives to play the game more during the event
The only reason I don't mind events being as short as they have been the past few years is because I have a handful of alts I like to get the event items on. Although I no longer actively play on them like I used to I still get the stuff anyway in case I change my mind later down the line and don't have to pay for it on the Mogstation. Now ideally, I would make it so event items are simply account-wide so altaholic people don't have to worry about running it over and over. I think this is a fantastic idea, my only personal hang up is how tedious it might get with multiple alts, but I wouldn't want that to stop the devs from making events more substantial.
Holy ell. Seems like Skinner doesn't need to put people in the box, people YEARN FOR THE BOX.
This is what I want to see in a Holiday event:
-Story about 3-5x as long
-An interactive event (Either a holiday reskinned dungeon (like the first time we met Papa Gruff), a duty (like the one match making thing), or minigame (like the rhythm caroling game)
-When it's done, at least 10 of those side character cameo cutscenes they like to do sometimes.
-More items. Should always be at least a cosmetic outfit or weapon, a barding or the cosmetic appearance thing (umbrella and wing thing), a minion or mount, and housing item (at least 2)
Maaaaybe have the event give a token to buy holiday items, but 1 for 1, and you can get it all of it within a reasonable amount of time. Like a day, maybe 2. If I wanted to work during the holiday, I'd work at work. At least they give me $44 an hour for working there.

making the story longer is not repeatable content, i would rather they ditch having a story event every year to put that time into making the event have fun things to do every year like gw2 and wow have.
I still come back to gw2 every halloween that maze is so damn cool
I 100% agrree with you... You're my new best friend!I want more things to do in the game, guess that means i want the skinner box

GW2 Wintersday is so delightful too. Implementing some of the good ideas in this thread would be a huge improvement for FFXIV's seasonal events.
