Uh to be honest, I don't think it is in dire need of a rewrite... It's not a great one by any stretch of the imagination, but it isn't that bad to the degree they need to do a full rewrite.

I generally don't like recommending 'MMOs', if we can even call it this now, if the biggest/sole attraction is the story, and besides, the game already has several really bad points, notably the actual start of the game which is a good 50 hours of slog to get through, before the story even gets interesting for HW, and then once again to another poor performance of SB. If we're looking at recommending this game on story then ARR is a big no. Either it's a good 15-20 hours of skipping story or a solid 50 hours of slog with some brief good moments.

and if we're citing other threads as being indicative of anything, need we be given the reminder that there was a similar thread for Endwalker which reached 900+ pages? If this is the case, then we've had maybe 2 expansions that are good out of 5.

You can say the exact same thing about people who dislike it. You will not get 100 different reasons why the story is bad from people who hate it.

DT committed the horrendous crime of being "ok". This, of course, ruins the entire game, spits on all the memories and experiences people have had of it, and Yoshi-p personally exhumed my childhood cat, dressed it up as Wuk Lamat, and makes me pay $40 to see it.

Seriously, some of you need to buy some of that FFXIV branded camping gear and touch grass. The only thing DT is guilty of is being being a hamburger when people are used to Wagyu beef. If it's that upsetting...wait for it...quit. Nothing gets a MMO company moving a different direction then a sudden dearth in subscription dollars. Took the Shadowlands exodus to get Blizzard to pull their heads out of their asses a bit (still chest deep, but still, progress). Don't feel it's necessary to leave an "exit survey" post, either. If Squeenix actually wants to to change the game drastically, they'll ask people's opinion when they make that decision.

Agreed, some people are so over the top about how personally wronged they feel over mediocre writing. It's giving me a bit of Annie Wilkes from Misery.

Well, credit where credit is due, you're accurate.

I hope you can see why these points are only the tip of the ice-berg.
And I hope that it really is not so bad that it kills the game in the future.

DT wasnt all that bad, at worst it can be called.. adequate. since you seem to hang out in the threads where the screamers are all about the voice acting, the story, the bad sun angles, lighting.. well, take your pick.. AND decided to start another thread... obviously you wanted the attention. sorry snowflake, its your opinion, which you are completely entitled to.

if it really bothers you, can play it, not play it, or keep screaming you dislike it. I am not a fan of it, but I have seen worse, so overall... its not about to sink the game like your opinion thinks it is.

This is just a reminder for the developers, that the horrible writing of Dawntrail's MSQ will forever ruin the reputation of FF14 as a "great Story-MMO".

Until that happens, I cannot in good faith recommend this to anyone.
And no "up until Endwalker it's great!" will raise more questions than it will convince new players to try the game out, regardless of the trial.

I don't understand what the suits are thinking, but if they don't fix DT's writing, it will fester and drag down their only profitable IP right now.

Stop putting our sub-money into PS5 exclusive deals or shit like Forspoken 2.

The game can live without updates or future content because "Moon Hoppers" and the legions of modders will keep modifying and syncing people mods for many many years.
People that actually cares about what FFXIV its(Lore/Story/Content/etc) shouldn't be more than 10-20% the rest are our famous Mare population.

DT's story and characters weren't even 'ok'. That's the sad thing. I can't think of another FF Game that miss-handled their characters and the story arcs as badly as Dawntrail did. And I've been playing these games since 1987.
