This is just a reminder for the developers, that the horrible writing of Dawntrail's MSQ will forever ruin the reputation of FF14 as a "great Story-MMO".

Until that happens, I cannot in good faith recommend this to anyone.
And no "up until Endwalker it's great!" will raise more questions than it will convince new players to try the game out, regardless of the trial.

I don't understand what the suits are thinking, but if they don't fix DT's writing, it will fester and drag down their only profitable IP right now.

Stop putting our sub-money into PS5 exclusive deals or shit like Forspoken 2.

Not all expansions in an MMORPG are regarded as great, usually. There are hits and misses.

We already have had to say "it's great after ARR" for years. Not that ARR is really bad, but it's long been controversial, in part mechanically just because we have 2 abilities and the tedious work of unlocking everything, attuning to aetherytes, unlocking mounts and being overwhelmed with blue sidequests. But excluding the patches, the ARR story itself, while good at lore building, it's overall your basic good vs evil story that some might regard as simple.

I don't think it's so bad that it needs a rewrite or something. There are other "meh" parts of the MSQ, such as the patches of most expansions. Y'know, going to install a new government in each region where we toppled someone is our most typical patch story and that's more or less what we're doing at Solution Nine right now. It's important for the story but I've lost count of the amount of times we've done it.

Heavensward is the worst expansion ever that destroyed static raiding forever. Stormblood's lackluster story and horribly designed and waste of resources Eureka was going to destroy the game. Shadowbringers had a lack of content overall, which was going to destroy the game. Endwalker, too, plus a weak post patch story, and lack of difficulty was going to destroy the game.

Funny how each new expansion is the worst expansion. Until a new expansion comes out. Then it's "the good old days".

The worst thing that I encountered story-wise that I experienced before DT was the Ivalice-Raids-storyline, way too many names, locations, convoluted mess.
But even then, I didn't complain in this forum about it.

Dawntrail pushed me over the edge, to really make sure to let the developers know they fucked up big time.

I never had THAT much issues with anything in ARR or StB.
You never had this much backlash before.

As much as many people would like a rewrite, there's absolutely no way SE is devoting resources to such an effort. Like you mentioned, SE is mostly going to be funneling those resources into other games/projects.

You are greatly exaggerating. This game is supposed to be an MMO, and while the story is an important part of the overall experience, it is something with very little replay factor.
Instead of reworking the story, more work should go into fun, repeatable gameplay content, and not the giant cutscene that is MSQ.

Stormblood was regarded as the games weakest story, and yet is remembered fondly because of how many different types of content it introduced to the game. If Square Enix can deliver on the promises they have made in the past, it could be that this expansion will be just equally fondly remembered, outside of the story bits.

Not gonna lie, I don't care if the entire MSQ of a patch is bringing Alphinaud to the river of a thousand politicians so he can wash his face in it, so long as the gameplay stuff we get around it is fun and enjoyable.
