Seriously? No, I mean, for real? 7 Hours?

Okay, there are a few points I need to make here, because frankly this is in the realm of Stupid. I'm also a little frustrated, so bear with me:

I just nuked my entire Final Fantasy 14 installation. The entire 102GB folder. I did this on accident, given that I ended up, somehow, with two installations. Setting aside the fact that windows has no interest in updating the 'Date Modified' on anything other than EXACTLY was was modified, rather than the hierarchal directory. I was unable to verify which Installation was the old one, but because FFXIV doesn't have a 'Open Installation Folder' option, and the launcher was referencing the wrong folder, I ended up choosing the wrong one. So.. SquareEnix? Fix this.

Secondly, are you kidding me with this 9.0Mb/s Download speed? I get that I'm downloading something large, but I don't pay stupid amounts of money for Gigabit Ethernet, just for my download speeds to remind me of 2010. My timer is currently sitting at '427 minutes', which is 7 Hours and 7 Minutes for those of you following along at home. 7 Hours to play a game I should be able to play RIGHT JUST NOW if it weren't for the deletion.

Now, you might be thinking to yourself, "Just transfer from the other installation, and update. Duh." Which would be great if it weren't for the fact that the Final Fantasy Launcher lost its Proverbials and refused to acknowledge the legitimacy of the files and kept throwing errors.

So not only is my installation nuked, but because the launcher was located in one installation, and referenced the installation I destroyed, all my HUD and personal settings are completely gone.

Thanks, Square'. Now fix your Lancher and DL speeds. 10Mb/s for 102GB is a bad joke.

Edit/Update: Good GODS, this has to be a bad joke. I jumped onto my laptop, downloaded the patch, moved it to an External, moved it from the External to my Desktop, then uploaded and ran the laucher. It decided to just download the game anyway, and refuses to open. Huge waste of time, effort, and more importantly, my montlly Bandwidth! Thanks, SquareEnix, I hate this Holiday "gift".

Update: I remembered that I had an installation for FFXIV on my laptop, which sadly still needs to be patched; can be transferred over though. Full disclosure, it's on a Linux device- which given that it's using the non-standard launcher, is easily reaching speeds of 100MB/s+ over WIFI. This is another reason I mention that SquareEnix needs to fix their launcher. It's not an issue with Firewalls or bottlenecking, either, I checked just to be sure.

So, Square, what's with the bandwidth throttling?

Update-Update: Linux is done, already. Got another 6+ hours left to go on Windows. Let's be fair here, we all know Linux is the Superior choice, of course, but why must Windows users be punished? It will take me 6 fewer hours to download on Linux, connect an external, copy the files, drop them over, and then restore my configuration from there, than it would to just let my DL keep going. That's pretty bad.

Due to the launcher not properly doing checksums on all the files, if one of them is corrupted (for example, due to an SSD cylinder reaching its cycle limit) and crashing your game randomly, it will want you to redownload the entire game anyway. And trying to avoid this is risky because it could skip downloading an important patch file.

Didn't feel like it took me that long when I've had to do it though. If it's 7 hours then maybe it didn't feel like much to me.

Yeah, it's a real bummer, because though I have CAT6 Ethernet, plugged directly to a 2.5GB Ethernet, it should be so stupid-fast that I should be laughing about it. But I checked, the cable's fine, the terminations are good, ports are proper and connected, Firewall is greenlit, and running a Speedtest whilst my Laptop chugged away at 100MB/s+, my test came back lightning fast; also downloading direct to SSD. So there's nothing stopping, slowing, or otherwise impeding my Download. So I can only guess it's their launcher?

It could be SE's hardware rather than their software, as I recall they recently modernised some of their infrastructure, maybe their data server is just old or cheap.

It's possible, but I don't know, that the Linux compatible launcher uses a proxy server that has a higher upload capacity. I suppose it might be worth trying the Steam version? That should be the vanilla launcher, right?

It sounds like a problem with your windows machine. It's not clear, did you do a speed test with it or only on your Linux laptop?

My Launcher is downloading with 120mb/s. It's definitely not a problem on this side.
