    Class Idea: Machinist

    Just throwing an idea out there, what if we had a job that's a combination of crafting/fighting class? The Machinist when off the the battlefield would repair and create things such as Magitek Armor, Automatons (for PUP), Guns (gunblades?), and the like. However, Machinists can utilize a smaller, more mobile version of the magitek armor for battling (since it's main weapon would be something such as a wrench).

    The class itself wouldn't get much gear, however the magitek's strength increases with the Machinists craftsmanship/M.craft/control level (higher craftsmanship raises melee stats, and same for magic and m.craft, and control for ranged attacks)

    EDIT: The machinist could perhaps create beacons/gears that provide effects, i.e. a healing beacon that while active and within range, provides a regen/refresh buff, another beacon that offers a slight protect/shell buff, another that increases physical atk/def. Of course these wouldn't be as potent as BRD/WHM buffs, but would add depth to the class, as well as desirability for parties.

    Perhaps also, the Machinist could employ weak turrets, which would provide slight damage to enemies within it's range of sights. Of course, this damage would be considerably weak, but really only useful for taking out many weak enemies (such as the plumes for garuda, if there were a similar battle in 2.0 the Machinist would be a huge asset to this fight).

    Into it. In other games like FFIV, Cid was a (guest) playable party member, that went by the class machinist. Give players on that class his Analyze ability, what you're talking, and we might have an alternative way to level crafts which is actually fun.

    EDIT: Screw a littler version of Magitek Armor or a Mammet. If players have been promised Magitek Armor, why not directly tie that into Machinist? Another thread on 1st page currently asks "will we be able to use Magitek Missile / etc?" With a machinist class, sure.

    love that idea! ^^ i want some more new and unique classes/jobs. Some stuff FF Tactics and Tactics advanced haven't ever been used in FFXI or FFXIV and most of them are rly cool jobs ^^. I would love to see more of them.

    scrap that Automatons idea and it becomes nice "why?" Because Puppet master = a Puppet master :P

    Well I know a lot of people are looking forward to pet classes, and although PUP isn't the top pick, if it were to be implemented it would give the class more things to craft besides it's armor/guns (besides the fact that there would be a whole database of new gears/parts/weapons to be introduced with this class).

    Not really. If you look more into the lore of ToAU and do the PUP AF quests, you'll see a lot of these "puppets" are actually warmachines the empire created to fight in wars that were too damn risky, controlled by an imperial soldier puppetmaster. (Example, against Lamiae. And there's a few assault missions where you, as a worthless mercenary, are treated about the same as an automaton and fight with them / recover them. )

    They were only used for entertainment purposes much, much, much later on and even then people which own them to entertain people on the streets with them are rich as all hell to be able to afford them. Interestingly, according to ToAU storyline, Alexander is technically an automaton. Alexander as a god is has no body. Hence his body is always made. Alzadaal Undersea Ruins is what remains of his body after his last battle with Odin, and Ragnarok, and they created a miniature version for Razfahd to pilot (control) in ToAU. They're not just for entertainment!

    Any original class is welcomed in my opinion! We really need a Discipline of Randomness. I want a mime class [copy recent abilities used by others] (job metamorph [copy a whole creature or player's ability list]), a painter class [paint on the battlefield to add long term temporary elements such as frost pillars, lava pond, etc. used for combat and change the flow of battle], etc.
