    Healer Concept Draft: Chemist

    This is a very rough draft for what I imagine a Chemist healer to be like were it to be added to FFXIV. Emphasis on very rough--obviously I can't add it to the game so I can only imagine what it would play like.

    I am not a designer at SE, nor do I pretend to be one. Thus, I can't know what philosophy they follow when actually designing jobs (though I attempted to follow the structure of existing healing jobs). I just like to do stuff like this when I suffer from extreme writer's block to help flex the brain muscles--I used to do it in World of Warcraft as well.

    Potencies are not necessarily final, they were mainly based off of the potencies of similar spells from other healers at their max level. If something like this were to be added to the game, I expect them to be different, and also change depending on synced level.

    I didn't build the class from Lvl. 1 up because that's much more effort than I'm being paid for to do this ($0), but you can assume there are traits and stuff in the background making it work.

    Finally, I probably forgot some important ability that all Healers have--if someone points it out I'll add it later.

    Job Gauge

    The Chemist's Job Gauge is the 'Crucible Gauge', a flask and four phials within which it mixes Compounds granted to it by casting abilities in its core kit, to turn into Concoctions which are stored to be cast at a later time.

    I even made a horrible sketch-up of it in GIMP for your viewing convenience:


    (yes i know the phials kinda look like condoms, no i dont care enough to change them)

    Inquire within for detailed explanation:

    Some of Chemist's spells will provide Compounds to the Crucible--Volatile, Alkaline, or Aetheric. When these spells are cast, their compound will instantly and automatically be added to the Crucible.

    For example, casting Chemic will add 1 Volatile Compound to the Crucible.



    The Crucible can hold 5 Compounds, after which further Compounds will be lost.



    Once full, the 'Mix' spell becomes available. 'Mix' will empty the Crucible, and depending on the combination of Compounds, one of four Concoctions will enter the first available Phial.



    Each Phial has a corresponding 'Catalyze' action, which will cast the spell in the Phial. Every Catalyze has a 30s recast timer, which it will impose upon whatever spell is inside it. (The recast timer only applies to that instance of Catalyze, so if you have multiple of the same spell in different Phials, you can cast both spells one after the other)



    Additionally, the 'Solvent' action will augment the Crucible to produce a slightly different version of the combination's Concoction. These are denoted by a symbol on both the Crucible and the Phial.







    Finally, the spell Distill Miracle can further be used to transform a filled Phial into Panacea, a powerful capstone ability. This requires a Phial to be filled to use, and will transform the most recently filled Phial.

    Distill Miracle will work whether or not the Phial being transformed was augmented with Solvent.





    Basic DPS Abilities

    Chemic
    1.5s Cast / 2.5s Recast / 400 MP / 25y Range
    Concoct caustic chemical, dealing fire damage with a potency of 300.
    Provides 1 Volatile Compound to the Crucible.

    Alkali
    Instant / 2.5s Recast / 250 MP / 25y Range
    Coat a target in corrosive chemical, dealing nature damage over 30s with a potency of 70.
    Provides 1 Alkaline Compound to the Crucible

    Hi-Chemic
    Instant / 2.5s Recast / 400 MP / 10y Range
    Concoct volatile caustic, dealing fire damage to all enemies within range with a potency of 125.
    Provides 1 Volatile to the Crucible.

    Basic Healing Abilities

    Healthcare
    1.5s Cast / 2.5s Recast / 400 MP / 30y Range
    Concoct restorative chemical, restoring target’s HP with a potency of 450.
    Provides 1 Aetheric Compound to the Crucible.

    Hi-Healthcare
    1.5s Cast / 2.5s Recast / 1000 MP / 30y Range
    Concoct restorative chemical, restoring target’s HP with a potency of 800.
    Adding any non-Aetheric Compound to the Crucible has a chance to make the next use of Hi-Healthcare instant cast.
    Provides 1 Aetheric Compound to the Crucible.

    Vitalize
    1.5s Cast / 2.5s Recast/ 1000 MP / 30y Range
    Concoct soothing chemical, restoring HP of all allies within range with a potency of 400.
    Provides 1 Alkaline Compound to the Crucible.

    Hi-Vitalize
    1.5s Cast / 2.5s Recast / 1000 MP / 30y Range
    Concoct soothing chemical, restoring HP of all allies within range with a potency of 250, and restoring their HP over time with a potency of 175 for 15s.
    Provides 1 Alkaline Compound to the Crucible.

    Poison Pill
    Instant / 60s Recast / 25y Range
    Concoct toxic chemical, poisoning a target and dealing nature damage over 15s with a potency of 100.
    A portion of damage dealt is returned to party members within 30y of the target as healing.
    Provides 1 Aetheric Compound to the Crucible.

    Support Abilities

    Giant Drink
    Instant / 30s Recast / 30y Range
    Spread a crystallizing compound, reducing damage taken by all party members within range by 10% for 10 seconds.
    Provides 1 Alkaline Compound to the Crucible.

    Hero Drink
    Instant / 120s Recast / 60y Range
    Spread a stimulating compound, increasing Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence, and Mind of all allies within range by 15% for 20 seconds.

    Speed Drink
    Instant / 60s Recast / 30y Range / 3 Charges
    Lob a flask of muscle stimulant to the targeted location, creating a dense 3y-wide cloud that lingers for 20 seconds. The next ally to pass through it consumes the cloud and gains an increase to movement speed for 10 seconds.

    Fabricated Down
    8s Cast / 2.5s Recast / 2400 MP / 30y Range
    Resurrects target to a weakened state.

    Crucible Abilities

    Mix
    1.5s Cast / 1.5s Recast / 1000 MP
    Combine the contents of your Crucible into a usable concoction, filling the first available Phial.
    Filled Phials can be used via their corresponding Catalyze action.
    Can only be cast in combat. Cannot be used if there are no available Phials.

    Catalyze I
    oGCD 20s Recast
    Casts the spell within your first Phial, emptying it.

    Catalyze II
    oGCD 20s Recast
    Casts the spell within your second Phial, emptying it.

    Catalyze III
    oGCD 20s Recast
    Casts the spell within your third Phial, emptying it.

    Catalyze IV
    oGCD 20s Recast
    Casts the spell within your fourth Phial, emptying it.

    Dump
    Instant Cast / oGCD 1.5s Recast
    Empty the unmixed contents of your Crucible.

    Pharmacology
    Instant / oGCD 120s Recast
    Doubles the potency of the next used Phial.

    Dispensary
    Instant Cast / 60s Recast
    Your next used Phial is not emptied, and can be used again.

    Auto-Potion
    Instant / 30s Recast
    Fill the remainder of your Crucible with the last added Compound. Cannot be used if the Crucible is full.

    Solvent
    Instant / oGCD 45s Recast / 400 MP / 3 Charges
    Alter your procedure so your Crucible produces an augmented spell upon its next Mix.
    Mixing for X-Chemic will create Demi-Chemic.
    Mixing for X-Alkali will create Demi-Alkali.
    Mixing for X-Healthcare will create Demi-Healthcare.
    Mixing for X-Elixir will create Demi-Elixir.

    Distill Miracle
    Instant / 300s Recast / 30y Range
    Transform the spell in your most recently-filled Phial into Panacea.
    Can only be cast in combat. Cannot be used if a Phial currently holds Panacea, or if there are no filled Phials to transform.

    Phial Spells (Unassignable)

    X-Chemic
    Instant / 25y Range
    Lob a phial of incendiary at a target, bursting into a burning cloud that covers a radius of 20y. Enemies within the cloud are dealt fire damage over time for with a potency of 120. The cloud disappears after 15 seconds.
    When the Crucible is full and contains at least 3 Volatile, Mix empties the Crucible and fills the first available Phial with X-Chemic. Casting the spell with the corresponding Catalyze action will empty the Phial.

    X-Healthcare
    Instant / 30y Range
    Lob a phial of restorative agent at a friendly target, bursting into a cloud that covers a radius of 20y. Party members within the cloud are healed over time for a potency of 100 as long as they are in the cloud. The cloud disappears after 15 seconds.
    When the Crucible is full and contains at least 3 Aetheric, Mix empties the Crucible and fills the first available Phial with X-Healthcare. Casting the spell with the corresponding Catalyze action will empty the Phial.

    X-Alkali
    Instant / 30y Range
    Lob a phial of crystallizing agent at a friendly target, bursting into a glittering cloud that covers a radius of 20y. Party members within the cloud are healed over time for a potency of 25, and have a magicked barrier applied to them with a strength equal to a heal with potency of 200. This barrier is refreshed every so often so long as the party members are in the cloud. The cloud disappears after 15 seconds.
    When the Crucible is full and contains at least 3 Alkali, Mix empties the Crucible and fills the first available Phial with X-Alkali. Casting the spell with the corresponding Catalyze action will empty the Phial.

    X-Elixir
    Instant / 30y Range
    Lob a phial of medical agent at a target. Allies within 25y are healed for a potency of 400, while enemies within 25y take nature damage with a potency of 400. Both potencies increase to 600 if both allies and enemies are affected.
    When the Crucible is full and does not satisfy the requirements for the other abilities, Mix empties the Crucible and fills the first available Phial with X-Elixir. Casting the spell with the corresponding Catalyze action will empty the Phial.

    Demi-Chemic
    1.5s Cast / 25y Range
    Lob a phial of concentrated incendiary at a target, dealing fire damage with a potency of 800 to the target and 60% damage to all enemies within 20y.
    Mix fills a Phial with Demi-Chemic instead of X-Chemic while Solvent is active. Casting the spell with the corresponding Catalyze action will empty the Phial.

    Demi-Healthcare
    1.5s Cast / 30y Range
    Lob a phial of concentrated restorative agent at a friendly target, healing them with a potency of 800 and reducing damage taken by them by 10% for 15s.
    Mix fills a Phial with Demi-Healthcare instead of X-Healthcare while Solvent is active. Casting the spell with the corresponding Catalyze action will empty the Phial.

    Demi-Alkali
    Instant / 30y Range
    Lob a phial of concentrated crystallizing agent at a friendly target, granting them a magicked barrier with a strength equal to a heal with potency of 800 for 30 seconds.
    Mix fills a Phial with Demi-Alkali instead of X-Alkali while Solvent is active. Casting the spell with the corresponding Catalyze action will empty the Phial.

    Demi-Elixir
    Instant
    Drink the phial of concentrated medical agent, restoring 30% of your health and MP.
    Mix fills a Phial with Demi-Elixir instead of X-Elixir while Solvent is active. Casting the spell with the corresponding Catalyze action will empty the Phial.

    Panacea
    Instant / 30y Range
    Lob a phial of legendary cure-all at a friendly target. They are fully healed, have all (curable) detrimental effects removed, and for 10 seconds cannot be reduced below 1 HP by most attacks.
    Panacea is generated from the most recently filled Phial upon using Distill Miracle.

    Bonus: LB3

    Runaway Reaction
    Casting: The Chemist hurriedly pours a number of random chemicals and reagents into a flask. Vapor from the flask rapidly gathers around them.
    Cast: The flask erupts into a massive cloud of sparkling aetheric chemical, spreading across the arena and diffracting light in cool ways. The Chemist looks visibly relieved, probably that their rushed concoction didn't kill them.

    A healer that uses potions and alchemy instead of magic is something I've wanted for awhile now, so I think that would be pretty cool
    I don't know if they would go for the name chemist because alchemsit (or maybe they would, who knows) but I know Bravely Default has Salve-Maker as a job

    Wanted Chemist as a healer/support job since ARR. Far as I recall, it was a sentiment shared by the devs as well and was intended to release with Heavensward. But complications with it (rumors of the Mix command and desire for a new weapon) ended up with it becoming Astrologian.

    Eh, maybe. I mainly based it around "would I enjoy playing this? probably". But after some reflection, I might be asking for too much out of the Job Gauge system.

    While I may partially agree, new jobs are one of the biggest sources of hype for new expansions. Asking SE not to add jobs is like asking EA not to make FIFA every year.

    Or something along those lines.
