Huge Packet Loss and High Ping

    Hi,

Ever since Dawntrail launched, I have been having massive latency connecting to JPN data center from Southeast Asia. My usual ping before Dawntrail stays around 50 to 60 ms and right after the expansion dropped, my ping ranges around 150 ms. No issues on my ISP since we have checked everything from the modem, cables, configuration, parameters, everything seems to be normal. Please see my trace route below.

traceroute to 119.252.37.58 (119.252.37.58), 64 hops max, 40 byte packets

Are you using a VPN? No

Are you using a wired or wireless connection? Using wired and wireless interchangeably

What Platform are you using? (Steam/Windows/Mac/PS4 etc.) PS5

Does the issue occur with one character or multiple characters? Yes. The issue occurs to multiple characters.

At what point do you get disconnected and/or are unable to connect? Every time I play FFXIV.

How often does the issue occur? Always since the start of Dawntrail.

Internet Service Provider: Converge ICT (pure end-to-end fiber connection)

    Region/State: The Philippines, Metro Manila

All steps taken to resolve the issue: Contacted ISP from time to time ever since Dawntrail launched back in July, reporting to them having high latency and ping, packet loss. ISP asked for my trace route and ping information for the entire duration of Dawntrail, possibly 3 - 4 times every month. Did basic troubleshooting such as changing modem password, shutting down the modem for 30 minutes and turning it back on, checked if there were any damaged cables connecting to the modem, everything seemed to be working in order. They have tried reconfiguring my modem for few times, checked fiber cables inside my apartment, checked fiber box that was located outside the apartment, everything was seem to be in normal parameters. In addition, the packet loss or high ping/latency occurs the same via ethernet cable and wifi (wireless) connecting to PS5. Does this have something to do with DDOS attack since Dawntrail? I am connected to JPN data center and I still experience high latency and ping, huge packet loss. I have also tried to send a report about this issue on this link for Sharing Information Regarding Network Delay and Packet Loss for FFXIV for so many times now.

Please look into this as it has been affecting my quality of gameplay since Dawntrail launched.

Good morning and thank you for posting in the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Forums.

The issue you are describing is most associated with interference with the game data. Most of the time, it results from certain security/privacy changes on PSN web browser. Please make sure that "Cookies" and "JavaScript" are ENABLED on the PSN Browser. This can be done by going to the web browser on the PlayStation, press the options button, then go to settings. The options for Cookies and Javascript will most likely be checked, uncheck them and then recheck them.

The fault may also lie with the "Date & Time" settings on your PlayStation. We would advise to please follow the provided steps to adjust your console's clock to assure it is accurate and up-to-date:
Close the FINAL FANTASY XIV game/application.
    Go to [SETTINGS].
Select [Date and Time], and "Set via Internet". (Please do not manually set the date and time.)
Once, the date and time settings have been updated, please restart your PlayStation console.
Once your console has fully restarted, please start the FINAL FANTASY XIV game/application.
Please make sure all other internet-enabled devices (including smartphones, laptop/desktop PCs, tablets, etc.) have been disabled and/or turned OFF to minimize game interference.

Thank you for visiting the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums!

Unfortunately, I am still experiencing the same issue even after following the steps provided:
    • I confirmed that Cookies and JavaScript are both enabled on the PSN browser, and I tried unchecking and rechecking them as suggested.
    • I ensured the Date & Time settings were set to “Set via Internet” and restarted my PlayStation console.
    • I also disabled other internet-enabled devices to reduce interference, but the issue persists.

Is there anything else I can try to resolve this? I appreciate any further guidance you can provide.

Good morning and thank you for posting in the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Forums.

We apologize for any inconvenience that has occurred when attempting to play FINAL FANTASY XIV. We would like to recommend the following below as it may resolve the issue:

    1) Perform a system update on your PlayStation®5/PlayStation®4
Perform the most recent system update and then try a version update for FINAL FANTASY XIV Online.
PlayStation®5: The update can be performed from the home menu by selecting [Settings] → [System] → [System Software] → [System Software Update]

    2) Remove peripheral devices to create a simpler environment for the program to run
Remove any peripheral USB devices (gamepads, cameras, microphones, headsets, etc.) to create a more stable, simple environment for your console to run the game. Also consider inserting the devices to different USB ports or removing and reinserting them.

    3) Port-Forwarding the PlayStation:
    - Check the following Port Ranges on your router/modem to ensure that the following Port Ranges have been opened/forwarded/triggered:
    ▼TCP
    54992 through 54994,
    55006 through 55007,
    55021 through 55040

*This can be done by visiting www.portforward.com, locate your specific Router/Modem Brand and Model Number from the 'List of Routers', and you will find a step-by-step guide on how to access your ports.

Should the issue persist, try power cycling the system by shutting down the game and turning off the system completely. Unplug all the wires from the back and hold the power button down for 10 seconds. After doing that, please plug everything back in and turn the PlayStation on. Once the system is on, please launch the game. Doing so will clear the cookies and the cache.

    Good morning,

Thank you for your response and for outlining the troubleshooting steps. I appreciate the support.

I wanted to let you know that I have carefully followed all the recommendations provided, including:
    • Ensuring my PlayStation 5 is fully updated.
    • Disconnecting all peripheral devices and testing with a simpler setup.
    • Port forwarding the specified ranges (TCP 54992-54994, 55006-55007, 55021-55040).
    • Power cycling the console and clearing the cache.

Despite completing these steps, the latency issues persist during gameplay. I’ve also monitored my network, and the issue seems isolated to FFXIV.

Would it be possible to escalate this or check if there are any server-side issues that might be contributing to the latency? I would appreciate any further guidance or steps I can take to resolve this.

Thank you again for your time and assistance.

    Best regards,

Youre traceroute seems incomplete - you do not reach the final destination. It seems there is a problem with Tier 3 Carrier Routing. I doubt there is something that you can do.

    The problem is there.
A jump from 20ms to over 160ms and with high packet loss within the same network node.
That's a sign of hardware issue on convergeict.com's end.
You won't be able to fix that on your end and Square Enix won't be able to fix it on their end.
