It's not your fault if one of your teammates disconnect or rage quit, and it's frustrating to lose a star because a player left the match. This should be adressed.

It would be nice to have some sort of protection/compensation for cases like these, but the lack of it could also be because the system would become abusable.
Imagine in higher end games when a team is losing - someone leaves and takes a penalty while their team gets no adjustment. Would the enemy team get denied their win or gain points still? Either way it would enable malicious point trading or preventing wins from people they dislike at a cost.
I understand the concern but at the same time you can also abuse the current system to trade points. If a person you want to win is on the enemy team you throw your own team's game and have them lose for said opponent's benefit.
And you can also prevent wins of people you don't like right now, they just have to be on your team instead.
Granted, the difference is that the person who quits also loses a point but people already wintrade so this doesn't seem to be a deterrent for malicious behaviour.
(We recently also had a thread of somebody reporting people throwing their own games just so that a teammate doesn't rank up. So if you want to damage somebody the loss of your own star might not mean much.)
Right now you are punished even more if somebody on your team leaves because you lose a star (and perhaps even a streak). On the other hand if the match was cancelled before it concludes the (potential) winning team would at least not lose any progress.
At the very least games should be cancelled if somebody disconnects at the start of a match (perhaps until the crystal unbinds). If somebody disappears in the starting area then no team has made any gains and ending the match would only be fair.
(But to be honest if somebody rage-quits at a later point in the match that's still just as unfair for their teammates. I have no good solution how to handle it though. Perhaps you could at least minimise the problems by implementing conditions such as if one team has reached/passed a check point leaving has no effect and the match goes on.)
Another/an additional countermeasure could be to add new players from the queue to running games to fill any sudden vacancies (like they do in Overwatch for example). We can already do that in PvE so it should be possible to implement for PvP as well I assume?
(Though here too it should perhaps be tied to progress. If one team has almost reached the finish line, then a new person being added to the match would just mean a(n almost) guaranteed win/loss for them.)

I know that you can't send tells to your teamates after the match to avoid harassment, however; I've been wondering if the algorithm keeps players who sent tells to each other in different parties, thereby allowing one of the players to go afk.
Well maybe the team without a leaver can still keep their victory, but, you make a system to prevent people from abusing of leaving. SE already know when you leave a content, so they can for example increase the time while you can't queue after leaving. 1st time in a season is still 30 minutes, 2nd time is 24 hours, 3rd is 48 hours, 4th is a week and 5th is banned from ranked CC for the season. If you have more than 4 disconnection while you play CC in a season, well, don't play ranked until you get a decent connection... And if you do it on purpose like rage quiting, well, you'll deserve the ban.
Doesn't this sort of thing just even out over time?

sounds good, but they wont do that, it would be a too high standard for competitive games, they prefer it more casually like banning chat to not deal with reportsWell maybe the team without a leaver can still keep their victory, but, you make a system to prevent people from abusing of leaving. I disconnected in a match earlier this week and I felt so bad for my team.

The game already has a system in place where a match is forfeit if a player doesn't connect in time. Just limit it to something like once a day and after that you're penalized.
