You could single-handedly save an entire dying run from a wipe but if you have a DMV picture, I'm not going to commendate you.
Sorry, I don't make the rules.

This!
The check box works inconsistently. It stops the confirmation form showing up for everything, but some portraits will update automatically afterward and some will not.
Give me the "Automatically update every !@#$ing portrait, every !@#$ing time without !@#$ing asking me, ever again." check box.
"A good RPG needs a healthy dose of imbalance."

If you mean the kind of like player making their ffxiv character look sexual and very NSFW. I would agree. Most of my portraits i try to make fitting to the job, like PLD shield raise with pvp LB, DRK weapon raised ready to bring it down, etc
"Working as intended" is far too generous, there should be no need for us to manually tell the game "no, don't change my portrait" every time we change gear. If I wanted my portrait to change or have a DMV portrait, I would've done so manually. I feel like we can only say it's working when it either stays by default or we have a "stop asking me just keep updating it like you're supposed to" option in the pop-up menu.
It worked so much better in the "beta" version way back when but then they went and trashed it
choose the sigma way, don't bother with them portraits
Well I specifically meant the default portrait - the DMV picture.
But yeah the lewder ones I generally don't like either.

An option for it to just be a portrait, a real portrait that we take one time and then apply to everything like a profile picture would be really welcome.
Having the power user options to do fancier things like switching with job or gearset should be items in an 'advanced settings' tab.
Just turn it off in settings. Problem solved. You'll never know what your portrait looks like or anyone else's portrait.
Honestly I think I've said this before but the solution would be to make the default picture your adventurer plate. I don't see why it isn't.
