Best case is I get rescued 2 inches because I had already moved back to a safe spot. Worst case is I'm moved to an unsafe spot because the offending person doesn't know the fight (M2 normal says hi).

It's a button that is used for griefing more than it is for saving. Feel free to look up the horror stories posted to this forum and elsewhere. You'll have no shortage.

    Remove Rescue.
Hold on. How can you use Arm’s Length or Surecast to preemptively counter Rescue when there’s no indicator of another player thinking about using it. Are you reading their minds?! Or are you like, standing in AoEs but then hitting Surecast etc and hoping they try to save you so you can nullify someone’s Rescue? Why would a healer even try to Rescue someone who’s used a knock back nullifier?

Furthermore, be careful what you wish for. Look at what happened when a small subsection of players complained about certain healers not healing them to maximise dps. They just got rid of it all . Can’t grief the party by not healing if you only have healing skills (then it changed nothing).

You’re asking for ‘Rescue’ to be removed, but what you’ll get is ‘healer agency’ being removed. It’s how the devs approach anything that can even remotely cause ‘player friction’. Maybe they’ll just remove knock back as a mechanic from the game. I mean, having your player character forcibly moved is griefing, right? Hell why should healers even be able to heal, just give everyone a potion skill like PvP, then healers can never grief anyone ever again (/sarcasm).

Should we remove Shirk and Provoke too? I mean, they do have trolling potential…

Yes if it's used poorly it hurts instead of helps but I was replying to the notion that the majority of players aren't playing near optimally, in which case rescues might end up being a good thing more often than not, or at worst maybe neutral on average.

Whether or not that is the case it doesn't remove the benefits of rescue when it's used well.

If you've done a duty enough time you've probably be rescued in the same spot by a few healers. One somewhat recent example is the opening AoE attack from the first boss of Dead Ends. Most people move to the "safe" spot upwind, but in reality you can avoid that attack from anywhere even if you're a BLM with Ley Lines down. I've been rescued there enough times to prep Surecast just in case.

Agreed those aren't very different though I think the potential to unintentionally harm with rescue is a little higher. Still not anywhere near bad enough to consider removing it.
