Precisely as Yoshi-P himself recommended. It's not just the community, it's the game's director who told you this exact advice. My sub ran out and I've started playing another game. Yesterday I lost track of time and just kept playing until I noticed I was hungry and 6 hours had passed. I had forgotten what that feels like. I can't remember the last time I had that much fun with the gameplay loop in FFXIV or did anything for the enjoyment alone and not rewards.
So many fans of this game recommended unsubbing and playing something else and I wish I had done it sooner. Such good advice. This community really looks out for each other and I'm thankful for it. I look forward to playing a multitude of games instead of this one in the coming years.
WAR don't get changes because they don't need changes. They only need more enemies to cleave.
That's very true! Yoshi-P wants everyone to see what is on the market in 2024 and put those side by side with FFXIV to make an informed decision about where to spend our time and money. And he doesn't even ask people to return. He's a generous man for helping other gaming companies out with marketing and diverting some of the potential profits this game could make to them instead. For example, since I'm not paying a subscription anymore I instead spent that money on a black friday sale for another game and I've already gotten my money's worth.

Honestly, I hope more people will tell more and more people to just unsub, just so I can see more of these popping in the future.[...]So many fans of this game recommended unsubbing and playing something else and I wish I had done it sooner. I’ve still yet to hear a reason as to why they still parrot “yoshi p said play other games” but yoshi p also saying “please don’t leave we have alot coming in the future” went in one ear and out the otherHonestly, I hope more people will tell more and more people to just unsub, just so I can see more of these popping in the future.

As a healer main in this game for nigh on 14 years all I can say is that I’m tired. My role has been eroded of complexity and expression for 3 expansions. I’ve watched the tanks do my role for me for 2 expansions and my feedback and critiques continue to fall on deaf ears.
I have no idea who modern healers are designed for but I know now it’s not me. This is the first expansion I’m truly considering dropping the healer role and not returning, so if that was the goal- congratulations I guess
This probably isn't helpful to you but, if I was THAT bored with the game, I would just stop paying for it.
I love playing this game and always find stuff to do in it, even if it gets repetitive. But then again, I'm not spending 10 hours a day on it either. I got work and the most I will ever play is about 6 hours (and a lot of times far less than that.) before logging off and going to bed. I've gotten a lot of enjoyment out of what I'm putting in money wise. Since I know I'm not a top 1% day one ultimate raider, I just take my time with the game and enjoy everything it has to offer at a casual pace. I don't rush to complete everything cause I don't find that fun. I want to ENJOY the game, not scarf it all down in one sitting. I still have jobs to level. I need to finish BLU and I just recently cleared the first 2 DT Exs, and eventually I want to clear the 7.1 ex.
What you'll find is not everyone is the same kind of player. I came from WoW years ago and one of the NPCs dialogs really stuck with me during that time. "Slow down. Life is to be savored and enjoyed."
No sense in rushing everything and then torturing yourself by looking for reasons to stay. Just take a break and play some other games. That's what I do when I get bored of FFXIV for a bit.
The constant argument I hear from Yoshi P and people defending the game's current gearing system is that the lockouts mean you can't play tons at once so you can get other things irl done or play other games. Here's the thing for people like me:
I work 50 hours a week. I have a family. I can't play the game really at all on weekdays. I get most of my gaming done on weekends, usually in 5ish hour bursts. What little time i get to game, i can't hardly get anything accomplished in 14. I can do one expert roulette, reclear normal raids, and maybe do a WT. That's it. Usually I can spend most of my Saturdays and little bit of time on Sundays playing games. I should be able to grind, grind, grind, as much as I want those days. The current daily/weekly lockout systems just means that I literally can't cap my tomestones most weeks. Despite lockouts supposedly being for me, they actively prevent me from being able to even moderately gear my main job at all, let alone alt jobs.
If I want to do 17 expert roulettes in a row and earn the bonus each time, why can't I? If I want to do the new normal raids five times a day, why can't i? If I want to somehow get 2000 tomestones in a week, why can't I? Why is the savage lockout one clear per week instead of one clear per role, per week?
Maybe this game doesn't fit to your schedule. It doesn't help if the game hands out everything without some sort of gating. People with way more time than you would burn out quicker. It would create an unhealthy dynamic for the players which can result in a toxic environment. Also the demand for fresh content would skyrocketing. No one on earth can produce content at the same pace as players consume it.The constant argument I hear from Yoshi P and people defending the game's current gearing system is that the lockouts mean you can't play tons at once so you can get other things irl done or play other games. Honestly, I have the same argument against caps. As much as everyone argues it helps people who have less time to catch up, it's really annoying for people who have less time and can only play in bursts. The constant argument I hear from Yoshi P and people defending the game's current gearing system is that the lockouts mean you can't play tons at once so you can get other things irl done or play other games. I'm not the type of person who plays for 30 minutes a day. I'm the type of person who plays for 8 hours in one day.
However, I understand why it's there though. If the no-lifers rush to get everything as soon as content drops and then abandon said content, the people who no-life on a later date won't have people to join them in doing said content they're behind on.
I guess caps are the lesser of two evils.
This kind of stuff makes me wonder where we should draw the line between "Lack of content", "Lazy content" and "Respect your time"
TBH, i don't think our combat is bad. DT has interesting design and ideas. Our gear progression still sucks....and why you want to reach the highest iLVL? your only option is ultimate or clear savages faster. FFXIV still has a lot of issues with incentives
When i reached the point where i asked myself "that was cool..what do i have to do now?", i did Doma Restoration, Ishgard restoration, Eureka, Dalriada, BLU, Island Sanctuary, gold saucer, chocobo feeding, SQUAD/Grand Company max lvl, Extremes.....and now i have the same question lmao
I may try to clear POTD and HoH solo, however, i am playing a MMO..i would like to have a MMO experience.
You may say "players will always finish the content faster than they are able to produce"...i think they need to change how/why they produce content then. I've been playing for almost 5 years, i still think i am slow af. Average streamer may reach the same level in ~1year. Some dedicated casual may reach in <1year. Hardcore teenager in 6months.

I don't relate; There are so many things to do in this game that it sometimes takes me an hour just to decide what to do next.
