I work 50 hours a week. I have a family. I can't play the game really at all on weekdays. I get most of my gaming done on weekends, usually in 5ish hour bursts. What little time i get to game, i can't hardly get anything accomplished in 14. I can do one expert roulette, reclear normal raids, and maybe do a WT. That's it. Usually I can spend most of my Saturdays and little bit of time on Sundays playing games. I should be able to grind, grind, grind, as much as I want those days. The current daily/weekly lockout systems just means that I literally can't cap my tomestones most weeks. Despite lockouts supposedly being for me, they actively prevent me from being able to even moderately gear my main job at all, let alone alt jobs.

If I want to do 17 expert roulettes in a row and earn the bonus each time, why can't I? If I want to do the new normal raids five times a day, why can't i? If I want to somehow get 2000 tomestones in a week, why can't I? Why is the savage lockout one clear per week instead of one clear per role, per week?
Honestly, I have the same argument against caps. As much as everyone argues it helps people who have less time to catch up, it's really annoying for people who have less time and can only play in bursts.

I'm not the type of person who plays for 30 minutes a day. I'm the type of person who plays for 8 hours in one day.

However, I understand why it's there though. If the no-lifers rush to get everything as soon as content drops and then abandon said content, the people who no-life on a later date won't have people to join them in doing said content they're behind on.

I guess caps are the lesser of two evils.

Same copy-paste formula since ARR with absolutely 0 innovation also money in game has 0 value unlike others MMO where having billions gils etc is rewarding.
What is it what keeps you in the game when nothing is fun for you?

Solo Palace of the Dead / Heaven on High / Eureka Ortho is amazing fun!
I don't like to do treasure maps with randoms, I play it with 1 friend. So my tank friend and I as DPS (If lucky at final boss floor I switch to healer, unless toad boss)
Not only because it is more fun with my friend, but it takes more time to kill things, and during it, we talk about many random things and meme about the monsters.
We also refer monsters by food types, and laugh about everything. Otherwise, we que to get the mount or crafting material for the barding, and scream when fail !
I think there is a lot to do, but it does not need to take too long, as long as the 1-2 hours you spend in the game are enjoyable, rather than AFK in Limsa, I feel it is good.
If nothing of this interest you, I think decorating apartment and taking pictures of each room corner is a lot of fun. It was something I use to do a lot.
Because there is so many furnitures, bringing out new idea room decorations, and crafting them by your own hands, it feels like building your own home in new styles ^^

DD solo is masochist content though. The perfectly average player will try it exactly one time, realize that all they've gotten out of it for their 10hr investment when they die to a toading & snake gimmick on floor 122 was three satchels with two magicked prisms and a wardrobe for the house they don't have and never come back. The major problem is that you need to die every stupid death and see the outcome of every dumb decision once before you have a real chance of beating any of those and that alone will take 100 hours+. And then you still gotta be at near mastery level with the game in general.

I found it hilarious when a certain streamer from another MMO came over a couple years ago and was like yeah I'm gonna solo clear this (PotD) in one week and then a while after he just stealth dropped the idea and never talked about it again because he realized it's not gonna work out.

I think it’s fair to say that giving solo DD’s a good crack is content but saying you need to have done them to say you have no content is not

I have not finished a solo run of any DD but I have given each of them a solid go to the point that I am happy with the attempts I’ve made and was no longer deriving any fun from that particular type of content

I think that’s a pretty solid middle ground

As a healer main in this game for nigh on 14 years all I can say is that I’m tired. My role has been eroded of complexity and expression for 3 expansions. I’ve watched the tanks do my role for me for 2 expansions and my feedback and critiques continue to fall on deaf ears.

I have no idea who modern healers are designed for but I know now it’s not me. This is the first expansion I’m truly considering dropping the healer role and not returning, so if that was the goal- congratulations I guess

Solo Deep Dungeons are akin to Ultimates, in my eyes at least, challenging content that requires substantial trial and error, and are hardly for everyone, but the people who enjoy them adore them, personally, I think group DDs are substantially more fun, and you can bring any combination you want, want 4 tanks? 4 Healers? standard Light Party 1T/1R/1RDPS/1MDPS? 4 DPS? you can do whatever you want, and it's all viable even if non-standard party comps feel incredibly shitposty, I even would legitimately advise people to try reaching the end of each Deep Dungeon with a full party, so long as you can find people who can reliably play to get there, but I will hardly fault anyone for scoffing at the idea of doing any of that nonsense solo, and if you think someone is fine for not wanting to do Ultimates, the same apply here.

    Really?

So your telling me you leveled up all your jobs? Ok...
Got the best of the best glams for our jobs? Ok....
Gotten all the rewards mounts, minion, glams? Ok....
Gotten all the side content achievements? Doubt it...

If you just playing this game for the raid/ultimate content then yeah your gonna part-time forever.

If you do not wanna play to get the the glam/mount/achievement mmo content in this game; maybe your playing the wrong game.

If you do not care about your glams/mounts then this game not for you. I recommend a generic premade character RPG instead.

Could be just me but most the mmo players like me or "casuals" we play for glam/mounts/minions/titles and the side content that is long term grind.

So unless you flying around on your Astrope mount with all achievement done....then yeah their "something" else to do other than savage and raids....you just do not wanna play the rest the game.

I think the real issue is, there is very little to do on your "main/favorite" job. Especially if you've been playing a long time.

Levelling is super fast and you are at 100 by the end of the story, maybe even earlier. There is no post-cap levelling systems like Alternate Advancement systems. Gathering one set of gear for your chosen main is a capped activity and you quickly run out of activities to meaningfully advance. Many of us have a few more jobs we enjoy as alt jobs...but the rest of them are just levelling them for levelling's sake. A lot of people do this for completionist's sake but probably have jobs they don't really like and never play again until it's time to level cap them again. Meaning it's just time-wasting and not that enjoyable. I'm looking at my final jobs I don't have levelled and kind of wonder why I am spending time on them. I'd rather have goals to chase for my preferred jobs, over levelling things just for something to do.

I have settled into my preferred glams years ago- Holy-themed/Eden gear came out in Shadowbringers, and the Greek-styled PVP gear is super old too. Gear coming out in my style is rare. I did like Theogenic for Paladin so collected that, but the rest is hit or miss. Half the outfits coming out now are modern/cyberpunk and I wouldn't touch them.

Collecting just for collecting's sake without even really wanting to use a mount/minion isn't for most people. It's "something to do" - but hoarding things you won't ever use - why spend time on that?

There is a reason I could spend just as much time, if not more time, in MMOs where you only had one job per character than some can do here. There were lots of advancement systems for the job you wanted to play and your chosen main. FFXIV really lacks those.

Edit: I'm also not an achievement hunter and never really understood those who liked to look at an achievement score go up. I'm more concerned with enjoying my time and won't chase achievements just to click a checkbox on those either since many achievements are repetitive/tedious/ not fun.
