massive fps loss on linux, any suggestions?

Hello, I'm playing the steam version of the game on ubuntu 24.04 lts, moving over from windows recently. Despite what the game says with 130+ fps, the real fps is significantly lower than what is shown. Frequent stutters in busy areas, especially in enclosed spaces like houses and raids. I'm using the most up to date version of amd drivers and that hasnt changed anything, anyone know some recommendations to help?

Yeah, since the graphics update the game is significantly more stuttery. I had to turn down shadows and somesuch to at least alleviate the symptoms a bit, but generally, the game is indeed running worse. You could also try using different versions of proton. The most current / experimental version might not be the best.

This happened to me recently, switched from W10 to openSUSE and had the same problems on WoW and XIV.

    My fixes were:

    1. Switch from X11 desktop to Wayland. If you don't know how to do this then look up a tutorial, I dunno how to do it for Ubuntu. X11 limited my entire desktop to 30 FPS, which gave me that "fps visibly lower than what is reported" effect.
    2. Make sure XIV is actually using your graphics card and not your integrated graphics. I believe the option in-game is under System Config > Graphics. Because of the compatibility layer, games won't always detect your hardware correctly first try.
    3. If 1 and 2 don't work, play around with the compatibility settings for the game in Steam. XIV isn't a Linux native game so it has to go through Wine or Proton to work... and that's a whole rabbit hole in and of itself.

1 fixed XIV for me, 2 fixed WoW.

swapping to wayland fixed the fps almost instantly, though after swapping the mouse has this strange behavior where it swaps to max overhead view seemingly randomly when adjusting my view.
