If it's some sort of partnership or joint venture, then it would work like this. Because Lightspeed is owned by Tencent, the agreement is between SE and Tencent. Even if it's all wrong and not as we think, it's still a waste of resources.
Are you trying to say that this Chinese company will develop the game for SE for free? I would laugh if this whole situation wasn’t so depressing. Like I’m still having fun and I love the game and this expansion, but looking at the direction they’re taking, by the next expansion I’m not sure I will. We are getting more rewards now, more things to grind, that’s amazing! But we also need the type of content that makes you interact with other players, the content that is actually hard and threatening, not just scripted fights with an instant wipe mechanics, a better levelling experience, a better and more meaningful gearing system. This is being developed by a third party. Square Enix is simply licensing out their IP and sharing game assets to another developer. No money or dev time is being taken from SE. In fact, this is just making them money.
Abysmally dumb take. That's literally not how any of this works.
I’ll try to be patient since Yoshi-P promised us a refined multiplayer gameplay and a more fulfilling gameplay experience, whatever that means, but yeah not the news I wanted to wake up to. I wish more effort was put into main game. Some people says it’s not that SE won’t give money to ffxiv, but that it’s hard to find a good employee. But they’re not even hiring anymore! Iirc the last time we got a hiring panel during LL, they were hiring a person to do the marketing…
Do you think Yoshi P will fix job identity in mobile game before 8.0?

What will we have to pull for in this game, characters or weapons or both?
They already stated back during the initial tease this would be its own thing separate from the main game...though I'd be surprised if they didn't have some level of connectivity to act as a carrot on a stick to the people playing XIV on PC.
Either way a stripped-down version of XIV that will likely be subject to usual gacha/mobile gimmicks fundamentally doesn't sound appealing to me.
This will probably be a hit in Japan, especially if they use Gatcha mechanics somehow (for Trusts?)
I don't think it will do as well in the US unless you can pull SSS rank Y'Shtola in a bikini.
Just level Trush Y'sh to 100 and you get that, well, I don't know about the "SSS rank" part, but you deffo get the bikini.

Welp GG's mates. Rehashed content, on a now developing mobile MMO. People said it for years that it was coming, and tbh FFXIV has many mobile qualities as is like people afk'ing in city hubs just queuing for content, and rpg combat elements being stripped.
Time will tell but i'm really curious as to what happens when the cheaper rehashed mobile game starts making leaps and bounds more money than their more expensive game with a harder to appease player base. Idk about you guys, but based on SE's past it doesn't give me confidence, I mean look what happened to the Kingdom Hearts series once the mobile games came out.
I guess my last thought is that this could possibly be a test for the next MMO which I've personally speculated could be a cross platform game optimized for mobile. FFXIV has not shied away from wanting to attract the broadest audience possible. Continuing the course this was the obvious next step.
On the plus side if mobile is your thing, I wouldn't be surprised if the game had controller support at launch.
