    Viera question

Are Viera sensitive to Aether like they are in Final Fantasy 12? As inf they are exposed to high concentrations of it, they will enter a berserk state referred to as a Mist frenzy, capable of tearing apart metal shackles in case if folk aren't aware of the lore?

I am quite sure it never happened at any point of the game and I haven't come across a mention of such a phenomenon in any lore text either, so... most likely no. But I haven't read every single side-quest text and lore bit of the game, so I can't fully rule out the possibility that it exists in 14, but if it does, I can't imagine it being a general thing for the whole race, but only something rare individuals go through. Otherwise it'd be damn hard to justify the bun-players not going berserk themselves, during Shadowbringer's MSQ or when visiting the Aetherfont and simialar aether-rich places.

FFXIV viera lack a lot of the stuff true about viera in the Ivalice games, likely so that they can have as much parity as possible with the other races. If they could go into a frenzy I'm pretty sure they'd do it at least once an expansion. (Including, No_Nick_Needed is right, most of Shadowbringers. And probably at least one zone in Endwalker.)

While it's true that FF14 Viera are rather different than FF12 Viera—and this is one of those cases—that's certainly no reason to discard the idea entirely. Even if it's not a trait all or even most Viera have in common, there's nothing stopping someone from saying their Viera OC is particularly sensitive to high concentrations of aether.

Relatedly, Fran does refer to the aether-rich air of the Orbonne Monastery as "Mist" before correcting herself. Which is a nice nod to the usage of Mist as the source of magicks in FF12.

Being 'aether-sensitive' would probably create some issues around teleportation, especially if you went berserk and lost your bearings. You'd probably need to draw a distinction between 'Mist' and 'Aether' to resolve this.

The way that it was in XII, yeah. Not that XII had an equivalent to XIV's Aether (in the text, at least) -- an energy which almost everything is comprised of in this game's universe. My point just being that Mist is very distinctly a magickal energy, apparently separate from all else, in XII's mythos, whereas XIV's Aether is a lot harder to avoid. It would've been difficult to transfer the "mist frenzy" thing to the latter's world because of that, as has been said.
