I think something that cannot be understated is how much MMO players, and video game players in general, are extremely motive-driven, and getting 6 million XP for 5 minutes of work is extremely practical, nobody wants them to be boring, but many will favor practical yet boring over obnoxious yet engaging, in an ideal world we would get practical and engaging, but those are counter to each other, so the perfect equilibrium can be extremely hard to find.

Makes me wonder if SE has metrics for this stuff, and they have evidence that more people saw, for example, Pixies to max rank, than they saw Sylphs to their max rank, so it pushed them to make future ones more like the former and less like the latter... though honestly Pixies are still my second favorite Allied Society after Omicrons, and Omicrons kind of cheat by being 5 or 6 species wrapped in one, so I wish they had taken the cues from the writing rather than the gameplay... if I have to hear about "inner abacus" one more time, I am going to learn if Pelupelu are an amphibious by trial and error...

Because the average XIV player hates attrition and adversity in gameplay for anything except high-end raids.

As a consequence with each expansion tribal quests became less and less involved so that they can be done very quickly in a daily basis and players can get all that pesky non-raid content out of the way. And the limsa afkers/lounge lizards need all their precious time not dedicated to actual gameplay so the easier and the faster the better.

In spite of my sarcasm I don't blame anyone for hating how they were designed back in ARR or even Heavensward. The fault lies in the routine/treadmill formula of progression. Anyone gets sick of repeating those quests every day. Tribal quests are frankly pretty worthless as far as engaging gameplay goes.

As for the proportion of combat quests... Who cares at this point? Fighting normal monsters in the field is even worse than fighting trash pulls in dungeons. You can easily dispatch them by spamming 1 button of whatever job you're using while they tickle you with their crap damage. Field combat isn't fun.

So, I actually enjoyed a lot of the old ARR beast tribe quests. There were some neat touches, like how the Sahagin ones took you to unique areas of the map (ships, islands, though you can get there without the quests these days with flying...). The dreaded Sylph stealth missions never bugged me.
Waiting for FATEs wasn't fun, no. But at least you could get the FATE items even without the quests active and stock up on them when you saw the FATEs up.
The Ixali requiring you to visit different maps for their later quests did annoy me, but at least it gave the illusion of a journey I suppose.

I'm assuming SE has metrics showing most players don't bother with the ARR tribes as the newer quests require much less effort and give much more exp. I remember feeling somewhat insulted by the devs when one of the Pixie dailies involved talking to 1 npc a stone's throw from the quest giver. Dailies at this point are just a vehicle for free exp as opposed to content in and of themselves.

The Ixali quests also required having a combat job leveled... because there was combat involved (example 1; example 2; I'm bet there are more, but I'm too lazy to check every quest).

We're the Warrior of Light. It's not a big ask to thwack a few mobs on out way to obtaining some crafting materials. It wouldn't be the worst if the same were true for the combat tribes.

Some Ixali quests even required having gathering jobs. It was a more experimental time for the game.

Although it's the "Pelupelu" allied society, so far it is heavily skewed towards Hanuhanu lore because of the Kozama'uka locale. The Hanuhanu eat reeds. That's their purpose. They cannot stop talking about how much they love reeds. The Hanuhanu are boring.

There wasn't actually that much combat in the Arkasodara dailies…
Thank you, but my point isn't solely about the amount of combat quests, it's the amount of times I'm getting them and how extremely unengaging the others are. These are lazy, with the little substance in them you'd think it's being spent on some other worthwhile or engaging daily quests... Right?

Hell, I ranked up again today, means more quest in the pool to get them from and hopefully something improved, right? Nah, more "talk to npc and come right back with no further objective" quests, except this time instead of 1 npc, it was 3. I can't remember if any of the other combat beast tribes felt this low effort with their quests early on, even if they were tiresome back then.

Yeah, I'm kinda confused why there is so little combat in the 'combat' society daily quests. Like I don't expect much, but it would be nice to fight more monsters or something. Y'know to like have a reason to press my level 90+/100 buttons or something.

Sorry you had to go through that, but that doesn't mean SE has the right to be lazy with content.
