    7.1 Male Miqo'te Face 1: Unaddressed issues (meaning most of them)

    So I know I'm a bit late and doing this a while after 7.1 comes out, but it's hard to muster the will at this point but ANYWAYS

    When Squeenix said they'd taken a lot of feedback and would apply it, I was very mildly hopeful that they'd address at least a few of the flaws with the appearance of male miqo face 1 as compared to the original, but as of now, those issues have not yet been addressed, so here I am again to once again shout into the void that is the forums in the faint hope that the developers will listen.

    I won't go into too much detail because most of the feedback is already right there, but in short, the new male miqo'te model fails to match the old appearance due to a number of key factors that have sucked a lot of the charm out of them and made my characters not look like themselves, and I know other people have felt negatively about it as well.

    Firstly, the eyes. For Keepers at least they still look too lifeless, and the upper eyelid/eyelashes still look too thin, which alters the overall shape of the eyes and thus the character's expression. Frankly, fixing that is as easy as upping the contrast of the irises and pupils and making the black part of the eyelid a little larget and the eyes will be fine.

    I'll amend my feedback about the mouth somewhat. I thought it was just a texture issue, but at this point I'm pretty confident that the model itself needs tweaks. Aside from just not looking the same, the new mouth doesn't quite make sense either. On the old model, the part of the mouth where the upper lip met the lower, there was a distinctive kind of a W shape. With this being gone, it greatly alters the overall feel of the mouth, and it also means that the mouth's shape no longer matches the appearance of the upper lip properly. The shape is kind of faintly there, but the it needs to be a lot more pronounced so it's actually noticeable.
    The other major issue with the mouth is the lower lip. It's way too wide at the sides and should have a steeper taper. Fixing this would make them no longer have that hideously giant frog mouth we've been stuck with. It doesn't show as much if you don't use lipstick, but if you do, the shape of the lower lip becomes glaringly obvious. The old model also had an indication of a little upward indentation at the bottom of the lower lip which is now absent, and contributed slightly to the overall look of the mouth. I'm very confident that this is an actual issue with the model and textures themselves and not a matter of how the game processes information, like the developers have been saying.

    Squeenix, please fix it, I'm tired of covering my character's face all the time and I don't want to live in a world where illegitimate methods is the only way to restore some modicum of normalcy in the wake of a graphical update no one asked for.

    It really does feel like they updated the models as an afterthought. It's less prevalent with some of the other races, but some of them look like they've not had much consideration put into them like they were the last ones to be done, and they had to change something. It's kinda baffling, honestly.

    I complained a lot in the original thread and I also submitted feedback on the Japanese forums about the issues with male miqo face 1, but to be honest I've given up now. They did f*** all between the first benchmark and the 2nd, again nothing at DT release, in patch 7.1 all they did was fixing the messed up philtrum a little - which, ok, helps a bit - but the shape and shading of the lips and the way that lipstick applies is still f***ed. There's not enough people making a stink about this for SE to give a shit. Face 1 as we knew it doesn't exist anymore and apparently barely anyone even cares

    It is sad, honestly the frog mouth is just terrible and unfortunate looking. I glanced over the pictures on your old thread as a reminder since I too commented on your old post.

    I've come to get used to the new look after playing for some time, so if they do adjust stuff, I hope it's in the form of more character creation options so that those that are happy and those that are not both get what they want.

    I'm personally happy with the lips, so I'd rather not change that but I sympathize with your post.


    Things that are still not addressed, in my opinion, are:

    - Eyes still look a bit off, depending on angle and lighting. This feeling of soullessness remains sometimes. The slit pupils of Seekers also look less prominent compared to before.

    I'm mostly used to the new eyes by now so this is a relatively minor problem to me.

    - The low resolution textures in the face have not been addressed. Face paint and the male eye markings have not been improved. There's low resolution dark spots around the eyes, particularly below the lower eyelid, and the sides of the face present some weirdly low resolution areas as well.

    - Eyebrows and facial hair are less prominent than before. Ideally, we should get an eyebrow thickness slider because they're thinner than before.

    - The hair texture of the ears is still kinda low resolution. If we check the first two haircuts released in DT and compare them with the older ones or the ears' hair, there's quite a difference in quality.


    For more general feedback, portraits still look strange compared to EW, probably because of the shadows.

    Additionally, our bodies should be updated alongside the faces and heads because it is jarring to see the difference in quality when comparing the latter with the former. I also feel like the quality of the graphical update could be better overall.

    Finally, I'd like to reiterate that if any of this feedback is taken into account, it is implemented as character creator options whenever suitable to appease both sides. For instance, in the latest update they thinned the upper lip of miqo'te face 4 and I know it has made some people not happy with this because they preferred the previous thicker option. I'd rather avoid that problem for our own face type.
