Because only the interiors are instanced, and the wards themselves have to be permanently loaded, it’s not really cost effective to just throw out new wards all the time.
There have been dozens of posts from people who say they are subbed just to keep their house, and that's also a minority who even post on game forums. Many more are doing the same without posting about it. There is no chance FFXIV will ever get instanced housing because it absolutely is cost effective to keep players hostage like this. They don't even have to add wards anymore because the game is declining and will never reach Endwalker numbers again.

Pfft. The only thing modern Blizzard never disappoints in is disappointment. If it doesn't suck for the start, just give them a minute, they'll figure out a way to make it suck. I expect jack and all from this aside from $90 tables.

That being said, if it could nudge FFXIV to introduce feature complete instanced housing, bring it on.

Or are we going to forget FFXIV bugs like RMT stealing ur gil by forcing u to buy their items off of the MB if u were standing too close?
    Leve abuse and bugs?
    ID item swapping?
All the out of bound glitches? U could literally see Alexander before he spawns into the map.
Dungeon progression items falling through the floors?
Bosses having their phases bugged forever, i.e Twintania?
When fishing would crash the whole game servers?
When glam dressers would crash whole game servers?

Yeah buddy FFXIV is a completely bug free game and never has had any issues ever.
They never said FF14 is bug free. If you want to cherry pick a few bugs that happened over the course of FF14's lifetime, WoW has tons to make up for it. A few off the top of my head?

    Buggy bosses?
    - Wiping on phase 2 Ragnaros wouldn't reset his periodic fire damage aura, forcing you to reset the instance. If you did manage to heal through the it and get back to phase 2, the effect will now be doubled.
    - Azuregos would regularly teleport all players underneath him, and depending on where you were fighting him in the zone, sometimes he'd just dump all players under the world, forcing everyone to respawn at the graveyard.
    - C'thun would spawn tentacles in walls and in him stomach, making them impossible to kill and causing a wipe.
    - Enemies didn't stop spawning during phase 2 on Razorgore, making the phase chaotic and easy (players spent more time trying to deal with enemies instead of the boss, and the enemies that did bonus damage to dragons would eventually kill the boss on their own).
    - Defeating Razorgore didn't stop the enemies from spawning, forcing you to leave the dungeon to reset the fight.
    - The door out of Vaelastrasz's room didn't open after he was defeated. We had to ask a GM to open it for us on a couple occasions.
    - If a hunter or warlocks's pet got a debuff and you dismissed it, you could later summon it and it'll still have the debuff. Some classic silliness include blowing up people in town with Baron Geddon's Living Bomb, or passing Hakkar's Corrupted Blood to NPCs and players and watching it murder other players that it got passed to as there was no way to remove it.

Sometimes mining and picking herbs would lock the player in the looting animation and prevent you from doing anything else except move, forcing you to relog to fix it.
Paladins could 1-shot anything if they gathered enough charges of Reckoning beforehand, including any boss.
A paladin using a certain low rank of Seal of Righteousness with 4/5 points in its improvement talent would instead summon a Brewfest Kodo anywhere, even in places you normally couldn't mount.
Jumping and tapping forward would allow you to climb most walls, allowing you to get to many out of bound locations.
It was possible to pull world bosses and powerful NPCs back to cities and let them wreck havoc. Lord Kazzak in Stormwind was a particularly fun one because he healed whenever he killed someone.
Female Tauren were too tall to fit through certain doorways, including the shortcut into Molten Core. They eventually added a crystal to teleport into the raid to fix this.
The boat between Wetlands and Darkshore would regular crash the servers if too many people were on it. They temporarily disabled the boat and added a teleport NPC named Captain Placeholder until it was fixed.
Engineering bombs could destroy certain objects early that were meant to be destroyed later on in the fight due to boss mechanics, allowing you to skip phases.

maybe you might want to check out some of there other.. "features" such as losing ENTIRE guild bank contents. some guilds going all the way back to the beginning... lost.. everything. some got stuff back.. some didnt. yeah... great game. great company. their releases are usually bug ridden messes, back when I still played you didnt plan on playing the first week of a release, simply because it was usually unplayable. I wouldnt say that its better over there by any stretch of the imagination.
Oh yeah, WoW is coming apart at the seams: Shirts disappearing off your back, pets vanishing, reputations resetting, gear suddenly changing ilevel.

All the people thinking it's going to be terrible on release are funny, they have tons of assets already, and if it's anything like wildstar thn it'll already be better than 14, they really just need to add some kinda rested xp and it'll be better than 14 tbh

I am with the guy on the first page that said they want it to be good just to put pressure on FFXIV, I don't play WoW, I never played WoW, I will never play WoW, but competition is good.

    Why not do it then?
FFXI was superseded by FFXIV and I doubt FFXIV will be FFs last MMO. Might as well cut it short and open up the possibilities they might've had for the next MMO.

Me too, I actually want FFXIV to keep updating where the game has many new features going forward and also getting rid of the spaghetti code to modernize the game engine. I even don't mind having to wait the same stretch we had to wait from late ShB to EW but not because of a global pandemic, but time to allow the dev team to tackle the spaghetti code and eliminate as much of it as possible. I would love a Halo Forge style interface to decorate and allow to float objects and more, it would unleash creative freedom for everyone including those on consoles. They could even release an optional 4k texture pack to modernize the game with ray tracing and such and make it look closer to how the world of FFXVI looks. I've been playing this game close to a decade now and hope to play it for many more years. Like you, I want to dream too lol.

players are not as held hostage as you think, people say this all the time on the forums but they are straight wrong.

SE would hands down make way more money on instance housing than just subs from the few people who feel they have to stay subbed to keep their house. i mean 5$ for a cherry tree that basically everyone wants?

also we were like 3% off of endwalker numbers this expansion if we talk about steam numbers alone and if we go off of SE saying we hit the highest numbers of players on at one time with this expansion we already know the game isnt in a decline of players.

Guild wars 2 released their own housing this year too, it has a 1000 item limit. Amazing right? Except unlike ffxiv it has an item limit for a set area around an item, so you cannot put a lot of items in a relatively large radius. The way they allow you to place and RESIZE items though is fantastic. The crafting of items for the homestead is annoying though as many common items you would want require rare materials that ofc skyrocketed in price upon the housing release. I would say gw2 is worth a look for the janthir expansion as the warclaw and housing are nice. Having a cozy cabin is nice, but they could have done the system a lot better.

Here's hoping WoW looks at the good and bad of both ffxiv, gw2 and other mmo's housing and does a good job of it.
