    Just a speculation.
So I am essentially being forced to re-roll and not have progression saved. That's a huge deal. I don't mind doing some beta testing but as far as playing significant parts of the game and then having to do them again, no thanks. The sole reason I started to play an MMO was to be able to grow my character over time unlike regular games where you play for a few weeks and then stop.

If I can't play Cynthis and keep her progress for 3 months or more then I will consider her goals fulfilled and move on with my real life. It would cheapen my memory of her to start from scratch with a new character and besides, I simply don't have then energy to go through it all again. As for the new low/mid-level content, Cynthis can I experience all that when new classes are introduced as is fitting.

    Oh no, you misunderstand.

I've done a lot on my character as well and would not want to re-roll, and if that were the case, I'll have a hard time convincing myself to continue playing the game if I started anew.

I meant to say that whatever character we play on beta, since our original character(s) will be inactive at the time, will be our placeholder(s) for our original character(s). I say this since perhaps some players want to change race, or gender, or name, and they technically can do so in the beta while their data is being converted/transferred.

What I meant to say about starting from scratch is that characters in betas usually start from level 1. And going by what I said before about a placeholder, say you create a new version of Cynthis during the beta. That version of her will then have data transferred from "old" Cynthis. As for the progress you make in beta, I don't know, but I hope you get what I'm saying.

I should have elaborated more, my mistake ><

I'm the first one to admit that this is hard to write clearly, never mind think off clearly. So if I understand you correctly your theory is that the only part of the beta character that would be applicable after the transfer of data is essentially the character creation information and that would be filled in with our progress in 1.x. That would indeed be convenient. Personally I kind of doubt that is how SE will do it, much easier from their part to just wipe all data from beta and have us go through that process again when we "re-activate" our characters.

One thing I am curious about is how the beta testing will actually work. I agree with your point that we will most likely start characters from scratch for the first "closed" beta but if we assume that runs for 1-2 month, that means SE should get lots of feedback on low-level content but it would be fairly limited on endgame stuff since even though leveling is fast there probably will not be too many well geared L50 players of each job in any given free company to take on presumably tough content like defeating the new open world roaming primals.

I am assuming that type of content will primarily be tested in the "open" beta/free-to-play period after our characters have been transferred. If we can keep progress in that phase then I am hopeful the game will really only be "down" (In my definition the game is down if we can't play our existing characters and save progress) during the "closed" beat which might be a reasonable amount of time. I think that's a big if though...

Yes, exactly! It would indeed be convenient. But what you're saying seems the most likely route they could take. Then again, we don't know. I'd wish we'd start getting information about it since it is getting close to the proposed closed beta and shutdown of 1.0 servers.

I can vaguely remember how it went but I was in alpha and beta. Every alpha event, IIRC, our characters were wiped out and we had to make a new one. However, I do recall there being LV50s during alpha, so I could be wrong. It's been a long time. As for closed beta, same thing, up until open where it ran for about a week, I think? Anyway, I think that all that was tested was basic stuff like levequests, quests, mechanics, UI, and all that stuff we had at 2010 release. Not sure if we had legit endgame in testing or even at release.

Perhaps. That would make sense since we'll be in the position to test that sort of thing, even if the majority of it is what we have now pre 2.0 (I think). But yeah, big if... u__u

We expect these tasks to be complete by the third quarter of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2013
Doesn't that mean December? Fiscal year ending March 31, 2013 so the end of third quarter is December 2013. Jan - March 2013 is the FOURTH quarter.

    This sounds right.

But as Catapult put it, it has different timing on fiscal years. Think mine was a bit off.

Don't confuse beta testing with previewing content -- You don't use your character from 1.x during the downtime while 2.0 beta is going so they can convert everything over to 2.0's format, which is why they stated any quests in progress excluding Relic will be rolled back to the starting point of it so you don't lose any progress.

1 - Fiscal years end on June 30. It's an accounting thing. The third quarter ends March 31.

2 - When they did the server merge, they did all the active characters at the start and then proceeded to take their sweet time with the rest. There are a LOT of inactive characters out there. Simmilar situation?

LAst conference said 1.0 will be going down october with the distribution of 2.0 to PC clients (does not mean you will be instantly in 2.0 PC beta side since current players will be added and cued for soft and load in-what ever load in is).

You supoosibly won't be able to play current accounts until official relaunch Data wil lstill be transferring. No word yet on beta account playability beign transfered or not. Or just for server testing.

Im sure more light will be shed on it for those of us that paid for the game and donn't want no play at all. Especially after payign 79.99 for the collectors edition and monthly fee's.
