Inverted controls is a great comparison – if a game forces the "wrong" way around for my usual preference, I can fumble my way through but it doesn't feel natural and may cause some gameplay fails along the way.
I was trying to use the new Gpose controls earlier tonight and it has the same sort of feeling. A simple task (move the camera X amount to the right within the portrait framing) has been turned from a simple instinctive movement to several frustrated back-and-forths, wrong angle, wrong axis of movement, to arrive at somewhere close to what I was after.
