The final 7.0 trial voicelines

It's *so* much better now that those voice lines were redone for Wuk Lamat. Slight change of wording, and a LOT more emotion. She no longer sounds like she's yelling in smallcaps.

Good job on doing this, it was a bit of a miss the first time, it deserved the memes (even speaking as someone that doesn't dislike Wuk Lamat).
Being willing to retake the lines shows they do care about things like this.

It also just confirms to me that the VA is capable of delivering good lines, but it's pretty much 100% the fault of the voice direction and writers for dropping the ball.

imo its not any better, the VA went from 1 extreme to the other, and now it sounds forced and over the top. for me personally this has not redeemed this character for me

Nothing will redeem the character, she's fundamentally badly written, and still steals the one glowing moment we get in the whole MSQ. But, the new voice lines are much much better indeed, there's emotion coming through, and it fits what's actually happening in the scene. So, it's overall an improvement, and that's a good thing.

It's an improvement. But sadly enough, the single biggest issue with that cutscene is the writing.

It felt bad in all languages.

The scream and everything that follows definitely sounds better than the initial take. The starting line of the cutscene with the rift is still comically bad though. Anyway, even with the change I'll still be switching the cutscene dub for the remainder of Dawntrail content.

The new lines are really good. Wuk Lamat also has an excellent angry line near the end of 7.1. Sena Bryer hit it out of the park.

Sena Bryer has to be one of the most critically-acclaimed voice actors of our time given by how much praise this new scene has gotten. There have been tens of thousands of positive comments all over Twitter and the forums. This one clip alone is probably one of the most-viewed standalone voice clips in any video game in recent memory.

But just because something is popular doesn’t mean it’s right. Up until now, it was considered a major faux pas for a White American to fake an ethnic accent. That alone makes this critically-acclaimed scene hard to watch. It is so offensive that this issue alone should dominate all discussion of Wuk’s VA. Sadly, it never will, because it’s okay to be racist if you’re Yoshida-sama who can do no wrong. And because the actress checks other boxes, she is also beyond reproach.

But that’s okay, because Square Enix is a failing company and, once they’re bought out by someone else, they’ll make good decisions again. So the more they fail, the faster that happens. Keep it up!

Sena Bryer has never been "above reproach". Even people who like her were criticizing the previous version of the Interphos lines. In fact, if she was "above reproach", people would be saying the new lines are the same quality as the old ones.

It might help if you just criticized the fake accent (whose fault even is it? Did she audition knowing she'd have to fake it, or was she instructed to do so? Either way, I'd put the blame on whoever chose to hire someone with the wrong accent) without adding in snide little remarks like "she ticks certain boxes".

Every time there's a thread criticizing some aspect of her acting, tons of people agree, and then someone comes in to go YOU CAN'T CRITICIZE HER BECAUSE OF WOKE. This is a problem you're inventing inside your own head.
