Looking at Arcadion, its an engaging storyline without a world ending threat.
We could have had nations trying to woo the WoL on their side, because of the implied political power of housing the WoL.
We could have had people forming a cult about the WoL's existence, threatening to overturn the administration of their nation in a pseudo-religious zeal that we could possibly intervene with.
There could be a new rival on the block that tries to one up us.
There are ways to portray issues in the world that are not world ending and still interesting.
Or we could have a story with a nice woman whose treasured bracelet was stolen, and we have to investigate to take it back without anyone getting hurt.
I still hold that Dawntrail should have been a bunch of little Shaloanis with the trials of the rite of succession interspersed within. They do a pretty good job at establishing motivation, stakes, challenges, and rising tension even with such a simple low-stakes story.

This is how I thought the story was going to be. In the 6.55 quests when I told G'raha I had no interest in the rite of succession he said, "Just do your own thing in Tural and maybe you'll help with the trial if it intrigues you." Instead we were thrown right into it with absolutely nothing else coming up until it was done.

The stakes aren't being upped. This is set up. They are telling you a story, not a increasingly difficult series of battles

Except we do get another case of "The world is going to end if we don't win." again in the latter half.

Yeah I gotta say, as someone who enjoyed the first half of 7.0 more than the second and also actually likes both Wuk Lamat and Koana... this patch really did feel kind of all over the place. A lot of the dialogue felt. Stilted, I guess? Forced and awkward. And it overall felt like a series of sidequests, which I guess is a little reminiscent of early ARR for me, but I'm not sure that that's a good thing. Kinda headscratchy.

Also, while the dungeon was very cool, our reason for being there and the characters involved were honestly kind of baffling? The priorities of everyone seemed so whack that it really felt like another moment of Plot Convenient Stupidity. That then did not have any payoff whatsoever within this patch. So. Huh????

isnt it normal for the patch quests to have 2-3 story locations and letting the player jump between them all the time?

Just a few defenders from the east who could make it to Tural to help made a mess of the Alexandrian army. Imagine the combined might of a single grand company.

The Garleans in their prime were more of a threat than the Alexandrians ever were.

That's mainly because it was terribly written, the Alexandrian army was a complete joke but somehow mecha-Sphene could harvest everyone's souls in the plotcontrivance dimension.

Except they forgot one thing. I have something stronger than any thing the villians can throw at me. ITS CALL PLOT ARMOR!!!!!!

I know it would have cost too much to implement but I would have had us be lost for ages after we sent the Scions back using the teleportation pad in Endwalker. We would have chased Metion all over and eventually won but due to relativistic travel, decades or centuries would have passed.

We would have expended all of our energy and strength winning and getting back home so we would have been brought down quite a bit.

At this point we would have received all new megazones that replaced the all of Eorzia. Going back to the original zones would be explained away as us remembering the past but all stories would take place in the new zones.

Quite the missed opportunity for 7.0 in my opinion.
