Like how they've kinda how the Pelu Pelu quests are also Hanu quests, I'm gonna bet that the Yok Huy, and Mobbies are gonna get bundled together for the crafting society quests considering there was a random daily quest with a Mobbie, and they talked about their history with the Yok Huy. Also Yok Huy, and Mobbies both have ties to crafting.

    2nd society rank up

I know I'm mostly probably reading into stuff if not seeing crap that I want to see, but why does the effigy of the punutiy look more whale like? Their praying sure does look closely to summoning but then they weren't taught the corrupted version. I'm so glad you can choose a "wait excuse me they can what now?" line when the hanu hanu go "oh yeah we totally used to make the punutiy fly all the time until the stairs got built." Now I want to know what other crazy sounding things these flightless bird men stopped doing or forgot how to do.

I found another spot for encountering the wanderers: the lookout platform down the far end of the For'ard Cabins pier.

There seems to be four spots to find them. One at the end of the docks the inn's cabins are at. Inside of Earthenshire, right outside of Worlar's Echo and near a hut in Iq Br'aax. I still don't believe they're anywhere in Xak Tural.

So, do we have any clarification in what really happened?

    [Alliance raid spoilers]

From my understanding, Sareel Ja after being knocked out by Zoraal Ja waited for an opportunity to get inside the portal to the golden city but, instead, ended up in a "nexus" type zone, or a world between worlds, and through that ended up having visions of Vana'diel.

Is that correct? What does that imply, that the portal is not in fact a direct connection between the Source and the 9th, but rather just a general portal that can theoretically take you anywhere?

Does that mean that Vana'diel is one of the shards, or that when in this "nexus" you can have visions of places beyond the shards - completely different dimensions entirely?

And, perhaps most importantly, were the original creators of the portal (Preservation, I believe) aware of this?

When Sareel Ja went through the portal he fell into a cleft between dimensions (what we as players might know as the Interdimensional Rift). While there he percieved the realm of Vana'diel, a world and dimension completely seperate from Etherys. His redirection, for lack of a better term, is likely due to Everkeep shifting into the source, and so disrupting the pathway. Preservation, I think, was unaware of this, after all they didn't ever figure out how to get the "key" to work, as far as they were concerned Dimensional movement was a hypothesis.

I think it's basically what we were told.

Sareel Ja slipped into the Golden City portal and instead found Actual Factual Vana'diel. The existence of the Ark Angels confirms we're not dealing with a 'XIV equivalent', they're tied to a creation myth that can't possibly line up.

This is not unprecedented; XIV has previously used the Dissidia multiverse approach, putting other FF universes as off in the interdimensional rift; Gilgamesh came from there, Omega holed up there for a bit, and previously Lightning, Shantotto, Noctis and Iroha have crossed over, most of those unintentionally. It's really hard to successfully travel through the rift, so Sareel Ja definitely didn't do this intentionally, and there were equal chance that he could've come back with some really cool ideas for combat schools called 'Gardens'. (Well, in-universe; out of universe he was only ever gonna find the only other dimension with Mamool Ja.) EW Hildibrand shows us that you can get to a shard from the rift if you screw it up, so it stands to reason that a portal to a shard can do it too if sufficiently screwed.

I suspect the portal wasn't entirely functional at this point, as Sareel Ja had neither the key nor means to access it, so it probably dropped him in a position to see Vana'diel by freak accident, but I have no reason to doubt the story as it's given to us. (Layte_Aeon's theory that it coincided with the Everkeep's shift would track, too.)

...what I do have reason to doubt is Sareel Ja's own end of things; I have suspicions that we might have an 'unaware ghost' situation, and Sareel Ja actually did die when Zoraal Ja betrayed him and just hasn't noticed it. That would also be a plausible explanation for the portal weirding out, and could set him up for some weird final boss contexts; this fanbase does hate being given a villain they don't get to rough up.

Part of me hopes the alliance raid plays out this.

I kinda hope it gets a little meta/fourth wall-y, and goes down a players versus developer narrative. Like we end up fighting XI's Absolute Virtue again, and upon defeating it Sareel Ja gets upset over the outcome, and 'patches' in a new version with new attacks. I also think it would be hilarious if in the end Sareel Ja gets permanently sent to Vana'diel, and ends up as a punching bag for XI players.

    Re: Alliance Raid

To borrow speedrunner terminology: Sareel Ja "wrong warped" to a location the portal wasn't meant to take him.

Aside from Zoraal Ja bringing Alexandria to the Source, it's also possible that the location Sareel Ja went to is related to the incident that converted a section of Living Memory into the Strayborough Deadwalk. I say this because Sareel Ja found electrope where he was going, despite it also not being Alexandria, and when we visit the Deadwalk it's crumbling apart in certain places.

Ultimate crossover engineering: they then go back and add a new quest to FFXI where he emerges at the other end.
