A direction I hope they take with Gulool ja is that he resigns as king, and teams up with Shale, and repurposes Oblivion to locate, and give back the memories of the departed back to the people of Alexandria where he can use his skills with computers to help people.

Nice idea overall, though he doesn't have to abdicate to achieve the rest of it. If anything, still being king might be helpful – if nothing else it probably comes with system admin rights.

I feel like this is the 'wrapped up in a neat bow' ending, but I'm not sure Alexandria's gonna get that. Most countries in the game haven't gotten that; they're left with lingering flaws and wounds that aren't cleanly resolved (probably because they wouldn't lead to a boss fight), to come back to later. Hell, that's what all the Endwalker role quests were about. I'd say the only nation that gets to walk away happy with everything is the Crystarium, and... honestly, it's a big reason why I don't much like the Crystarium.

I suspect that the situation with the Endless and people's memories of the departed are gonna factor in, though. It won't be easily resolved, especially because the Arcadion is building on the notion that the memory situation is still there, but it's one of my leading suspects for where I think this storyline's gonna lead.

After all, if you're gonna rev up a Final Fantasy XIV version of Necron, it's gonna be hard to find a better place to start than 'an entire nation's worth of unwillingly and unjustly forgotten ghosts'.

Yeah, I would imagine it would be like they only give back memories to only those who want them back.

Everyone with a Neo Regulator is 100% gonna botnet together, and summon Necron.

So FFXI has a free login campaign right now, and when I logged in I found out they have an event going on right now for the 23rd anniversary of the game which references the Jeuno raid in XIV.

Prishe's boots are available to players for login points, and SE had a message to players written in character as Prishe:

    http://www.playonline.com/pcd/topics...12/detail.html

Yo! How's it going, fellow adventurer? It's me, Prishe--your trusted partner through thick and thin!

Did you hear the news? FINAL FANTASY XI's coming up on its 23rd anniversary. It feels like just yesterday that we were going on our first adventure together. I guess it's like they always say: time flies when you're having fun.

Those days we spent together were a blast. It was never a dull moment out there by your side. So thanks for that!

Oh, that reminds me... You'll never believe the dream I had last night. In it, the two of us were going on an adventure all across Vana'diel!

We rode chocobos from Lower Jeuno and then headed out to the Boyahda Tree. After that, I nearly jumped out of my boots when we came across a giant wyvern!

Then we were exploring a great hall featuring a statue of Lady Altana herself, followed by some ancient ruins... And before I knew it, we were somehow soaring through the sky! It felt like we were birds or something.

Our next stop was the Shadow Lord's castle. Fortunately, that big pushover was no match for the two of us together! Lastly, we took in the sights as we looked out over Tavnazia from Blueblade Fell. The whole day was like some epic adventure! Isn't that the best dream ever!?

But wait, there's more! I was thinking it'd be nice if you could go out on an exciting adventure like the one we had in my dream.

To that end, I got you an awesome pair of boots! I personally vouch for these babies. They're the best you'll ever own. If you rock them on your next outing, you'll be the envy of adventurers everywhere! I'll leave them with the moogle, so be sure to stop by and pick them up when you get a chance.

I wonder... Do you think my dream will come true eventually? I mean my dream of us setting out on an adventure together someday. I'm sure it'd be a great experience for both of us. So I hope you'll help me make it a reality.

On that note, get out there and continue enjoying your time in Vana'diel!

I look forward to our next encounter! Until then, I'll see you when I see you!

P.S. Don't worry! I made sure to wash the boots before I dropped them off!

Most likely it is a just for fun reference as opposed to there being an actual connection between our Prishe and XI's but it's still neat.

Edit: And as for the event itself, once players have the boots they can visit the locations mentioned to get items to upgrade the boots into a stronger version. No cutscenes, just a message that the boots are quivering and you get the item.

Lower Jeuno= Vision of a destroyed city. A memory of Prishe that calls up images of a destroyed city.
The Dragon's Aery = Vision of a dreamy forest. A memory of Prishe that calls up images of a forest.
Ru'Aun Gardens= Vision of strange ruins. A memory of Prishe that calls up images of strange ruins.
Castle Zvahl Throne Room= Vision of anger. A memory of Prishe that is brimming with hatred.

You can then take these items to a place we haven't been yet in XIV, Blueblade Fell in Lufaise Meadows in order to receive Prishe's Teardrop. Then use the teardrop to craft the boots into the stronger version.
