    Fighting alongside Chocobos in 2.0?

Here's a link to the full interview
GE: We know chocobo raising is coming with 2.0, any more details you can share?

Yoshida: With chocobo raising you will be raising your chocobo not only to ride, but as a partner in battle. You can raise a chocobo in four directions – to become a tank, a healer, an attacker or a caster. This is chosen through a skill tree. Also, there will be chocobo specific barding/armor that will effect the chocobo’s skills – so it will not just be for looks.

So my initial thoughts on the subjects were, "Maybe this is their way of adding something like the Adventuring Fellow's from FFXI that no one really bothered to use."

If that's the case then they will be able to be called into battle mostly for the purpose of solo play, and probably only outside of dungeons considering they're Chocobo's. They may be able to be used groups, but maybe only one at a time as the picture shows the I linked above.

What do you think about fighting alongside Chocobos? Personally I don't like it at all. I think it cheapens the experience of the game. There are very few FF games where chocobos were used in battle. The idea seems very whimsical to me.

Chocobos were used in battle in the FFT series. I don't really see it as a problem. Seems like you can have one out per large group, but I also heard mentioned in an earlier interview that people that are duo'ing are allowed to both use theirs.

I don't know if the strengths of the chocobo will scale better than the adventuring partner from FF11 or not. If I'm raising my chocobo to be a tank and it has the strength equivalent to a level 50, it damn well should be able to tank according to what a level 50 damage dealer can do fighting at a normal pace.

I don't know, personally I like the idea.
In XI Chocobos were mounts, ways to dig for money items, and gambling tools.

Why not allow your trusty steed fight along side you? It only makes sense that an animal companion protect you if your bond is strong enough.

Besides that, from what I understand, Chocobos can be bread for other purposes as well, I think they are keeping the traveling pack mule idea for 2.0, one can only assume racing Chocobos will be a thing too.

As for Chocobos not being a companion in many other titles:
FFXIII-2 had it. (I can't remember if FFXIII had it).
Chocobos have also been defeatable mobs in previous FF titles. FF Tactics had a lot of that.
Pretty sure in other FF titles they were summons which is really no different.

So it's not a far fetched idea and it's been part of FF before. I don't really see the problem.

I always wished we got to do more stuff with chocobos, so I love the idea, and can't wait. It's fun to have something with you while you solo, and I actually enjoyed leveling my adventuring fellow in XI. I do wonder what will happen to our path companions, though.

Path Companions will be part of the 2.0 story. It's already been confirmed by a dev. But I am not going to go looking for the quote. lol

Yeah I just wonder if that means we'll only see them during missions still, which seems like that may be the case.
