Yeah, they're saying the same thing about 8.0 that they were about 7.X, and we already know how well one of those has gone.
7.0 MNK/BLM, 7.05VPR, 7.1DRG all caused outrage, and for good reason. Every job-modifying patch has had a controversy so far.
MNK's changes are especially stupid as the job is now less flexible and less forgiving of mistakes (7.0 wrong GCD - Lose 150 to 200p; 6.0 wrong GCD - Lose 46.5 (Unbuffed Snap Punch) to 140p (Demolish falls off, miss 2 DoT ticks)). Even knowing DT potencies are marginally higher than EW potencies, you go from losing 46.5 potency best case to 150. >3x worse. The changes punish casuals harder for mistakes, and on the opposite side of the skill spectrum deleting optimal drift means ubergamers cant flex a 0.5% dps gain anymore. There's nothing to aspire to learn on the job once you've played a handful of hours on it.
It feels like there's nothing to aspire to learn on any job anymore. Just load boss encounter and get excited to load next boss encounter, since that's seemingly the only half of the combat system the developers care about.
The beloved dev wants each player to have the ability to "showcase one's own technique or expertise," but says that "we're not in a good situation for that" due to the jobs' "simplicity as it is" right now. Yoshi-P then reveals that the team will remedy this as Dawntrail and its future updates roll out, "working towards a more fulfilling playing experience" in patch 7.2 and beyond: "We will look to the jobs and we will focus on providing more individuality in the jobs."Even the 7.2 promise in this article mentions the weasel words "and beyond," so they can hand wave any criticism of 7.2 changes as "We're still working on it." That, and "fulfilling playing experience" is a completely meaningless PR statement, CBU3 can and will interpret that as "any change I, the developer, want to make regardless of feedback" (Like with VPR).In an attempt to curb multiple updates' worth of simplification, Yoshi-P details how Square Enix "will be incorporating various changes" post-Dawntrail, some of which will be "related to the skill rotations."
