I actually applaud SE for the recent changes. Its getting people off the copium that the 8.0 job rework is gonna save this game. With SE about to touch every job, I'm starting to think 8.0 is gonna be the final nail in the coffin.

If anyone at this point believes that 8.0 will fix the jobs and the MSQ, I want to know where they get that faith from when evidence to the contrary is being shoved in our faces every time the lodestone has a new announcement. Yoshi-P is out of touch and checked out, saying everything is fine and here's some more Wuk Lamat (and supervising mobile crap in the meantime) and whenever there is an update at least one job gets ruined. They've started to touch melee and BLM in DT which used to be the last safe haven from idiot proofing but not anymore.
So I wonder what makes people willing to risk around $300 in subscription money for the next two years on the gamble that it will get better? The odds are not good.

They are serving us the most vile garbage this expansion so in 8.0 they can give us just garbage and say "look at this great stuff we made. We are listening!"

Hey now, they said it would be "modern job gameplay". Don't you feel filled with joy at the mention of modern gameplay? Don't you want your XIV to play like the critically acclaimed XVI of the same development team?

All I know is that this expension is my last for me I should have left at the end of EW but the only reason I still play this is because my GF play it too and we are both tired of it we were two DRG mains at first but now honestly what give? the job dosent have anything to offer anymore even their dash is lame where other jobs can also dash to party members (Same issue for DRK and GNB) Cant believe I will say this but I almost hope they stop it here and dont make an new mmo like they did for ff11 . Keep up the good ideas and wash away the default you know to start a fresh new adventure even if it take time people will wait with solid foundation and a path open to creativity. I feel like FF14 is becoming what made WoW players flee WoW

Yeah, they're saying the same thing about 8.0 that they were about 7.X, and we already know how well one of those has gone.
7.0 MNK/BLM, 7.05VPR, 7.1DRG all caused outrage, and for good reason. Every job-modifying patch has had a controversy so far.
MNK's changes are especially stupid as the job is now less flexible and less forgiving of mistakes (7.0 wrong GCD - Lose 150 to 200p; 6.0 wrong GCD - Lose 46.5 (Unbuffed Snap Punch) to 140p (Demolish falls off, miss 2 DoT ticks)). Even knowing DT potencies are marginally higher than EW potencies, you go from losing 46.5 potency best case to 150. >3x worse. The changes punish casuals harder for mistakes, and on the opposite side of the skill spectrum deleting optimal drift means ubergamers cant flex a 0.5% dps gain anymore. There's nothing to aspire to learn on the job once you've played a handful of hours on it.
It feels like there's nothing to aspire to learn on any job anymore. Just load boss encounter and get excited to load next boss encounter, since that's seemingly the only half of the combat system the developers care about.
The beloved dev wants each player to have the ability to "showcase one's own technique or expertise," but says that "we're not in a good situation for that" due to the jobs' "simplicity as it is" right now. Yoshi-P then reveals that the team will remedy this as Dawntrail and its future updates roll out, "working towards a more fulfilling playing experience" in patch 7.2 and beyond: "We will look to the jobs and we will focus on providing more individuality in the jobs."Even the 7.2 promise in this article mentions the weasel words "and beyond," so they can hand wave any criticism of 7.2 changes as "We're still working on it." That, and "fulfilling playing experience" is a completely meaningless PR statement, CBU3 can and will interpret that as "any change I, the developer, want to make regardless of feedback" (Like with VPR).In an attempt to curb multiple updates' worth of simplification, Yoshi-P details how Square Enix "will be incorporating various changes" post-Dawntrail, some of which will be "related to the skill rotations."

"Square Enix 'will be incorporating various changes' post-Dawntrail... come such changes, classes 'will not be more simple.'"
I've posted a thread about this very interview when 7.1 dropped. To me, seeing CS3 do the exact opposite of what the producer has announced implies one of two things to me.Yeah, they're saying the same thing about 8.0 that they were about 7.X, and we already know how well one of those has gone.
Either, Yoshi-P is so stretched thin that he is not supervising CS3 properly anymore (he did spent a lot of time supervising the mobile port, it seems), so CS3 keeps their Post-EW mantra up because they can/want to/have no idea what else to do...
Or Yoshi-PR is lying to our faces to keep us subbed for a bit longer so the "new style" (supposedly) 7.2 battle content can win us over. Which you kinda mentioned:
I hate how FF14 has become almost nothing but bosses when its about instanced content. It feels like there's nothing to aspire to learn on any job anymore. Just load boss encounter and get excited to load next boss encounter, since that's seemingly the only half of the combat system the developers care about.
It's also very reminiscent of Blizzard's "We know better than you" attitude that saw ever more ability pruning from Warlords of Draenor onward and we all know how that ended, so it's not exactly inspiring confidence.I've posted a thread about this very interview when 7.1 dropped. I decided to try the 7.1 DRG because I love torturing myself and as a game tester I was like sure okay I hate on it but i will at least try it-
I cant believe THATS our lv 100 BURST its so f*cking bad I ain't touching the spear again. I feel bad for new players now a days that will pick up the Lancer when creating a new character and will lvup to lv 100 a job that plays like it was locked at lv70
