    7.1 - Jobs, meet sandpaper

    or alternatively - how hopes for the 8.0 job overhaul gets diminished.

    Earlier this year, Yoshi-P gave an interview to Famitsu where he lamented that FFXIV was too stress-free, comparing it to a platformer with no pits to fall into. On a different interview, he also claimed that jobs would should receive more individuality while promising the jobs not to become more simple.

    What I see inthe 7.1 job changes however is the exact opposite of this sentiment. Things like the removal of triple Nastrond, the fact that you can now move during Ten Chi Jin, BLM instant despair, or that as a summoner, you can now not drop your Ifrit combo. (and yet they have not worked on RPRs gauge economy). Despite the producers words, CS3 still works to remove friction from jobs.

    Really makes me wonder if the producer and the development teams actually talk to one another, and what direction this game wants to go for in the future.

    My honest opinion is that its all just lip service just for the sake of giving an engaging interview (good PR) and to get the players off their back. They try to give everyone the positive impression that they're listening to feedback, but in reality they're just waiting for things to blow over and for the players to forget.

    The changes to dark knight are kinda nice
    I always thought that dark mind and dark missionary should work like feint and addle, where they defend against both but the defense is greater against one type of damage than the other

    though I don't really think dark knight needed more self sustain
    I wish they had worked on the blackest night instead, because shielding the main tank from a tank buster and it not breaking, especially in current content, feels bad
    also would've been fine if they made it where you could use abyssal drain and carve and spit separate from one another

    Reminded me of the dragoon jumps becoming more and more basically flashy physical ranged spells... The 1.0 animation lock was not okay, but the more recent changes were kind of sad and removed flavor (yes it added ease of use, but the changes over time makes them not feel like jumps anymore).

    Personally thought they should have leaned into it, glistening scales passive which gives you a max HP % + damage done shield, so it's like 'yes can be dangerous, also it can be a way to shed damage if done skillfully'. Or like all the jumps should let you jump to target or return to position via an easy button press (like by default they end at target, but either an actual skill or the space bar for 3 seconds afterwards would return you to position). Lean into the flavor when it makes a stress point, not away.

    Hope your feelings are not true for 8.0. I took a break from the ending of 7.5 to 8.1 (essentially) due to low flavor... It's wears me down, and makes me sad when I can feel it far more present in other mmos.

    I could not believe the patch notes. Whatever they (will) say about 8.0 job reworks is a complete joke. They're just doubling down on taking away any thought, challenge or individuality from every job, they're not gonna do anything the next expansion.

    My hopes of ever subbing again for this game are pretty much gone. As soon as I finish Endwalker I am done forever.
