    Character not properly logged out

    I am getting an error message "The character selected ws not properly logged out or is currrently logged in on another client. Logging character out. Please wait to log in again." It's over 2 hours and I still can't login. Also I am not sure how I improperly logged out using the log out via system menu in game as well. Do I have to just wait and pray or hope that the maintenance is going to kick me off the servers so I can log back in?

    Good morning! Thank you for posting in the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

    If this is only affecting one character, then it may be something to do with your locally-saved settings. Go to 'My Documents' > 'My Games' > 'Final Fantasy XIV' and delete that folder. If there are any corrupted files that are associated only with that character, this will get rid of them. Right click on the folder itself after deleting the contents, if it is set as read only, please uncheck that and re-launch Final Fantasy XIV. If you use the Windows cloud program 'OneDrive' this would be located under OneDrive > Documents > My Games > ... instead.

    If this does not solve the issue, try updating your graphics card drivers and doing a clean boot. To do a clean boot simply open the task manager and select the 'Start up' Tab. Disable everything here and restart the PC. This will make sure that no background processes are interfering with the game.

    Please be sure to install the game to the C: drive as this works best with Final Fantasy XIV. Lastly, please be sure that no background processes are interfering with FFXIV (i.e. Anti-virus software, OneDrive, Discord etc.)

    It is affecting ALL my characters, I can't login to any characters, when I create a new character I get a 90002 error. My husband and I both play XIV, he can login to his character on my computer. I tried logging into my account on his computer and I am receiving the same issue. I don't have any programs in the "Startup" tab so there's nothing there do disable nor do I have a "disable all" option there. My GPU driver is updated as well. I did a complete reinstall of the game earlier and still the same issue. It's been 20+ hours since this happened...

    More than 60h+ and I'm still logged out. I've reinstalled the game 2x, my husband can login to his account just fine on my computer. We have 3 computers in this house and none of them will let me login to my character from the menu.

    You mentioned that you reinstalled the game. Reinstalling games (in general) often doesn't erase configuration files since they barely take up space and are convenient to still be there if you install again. As such, the files in Documents\My Games\Final Fantasy XIV - A Realm Reborn\ could still be corrupted in some way (but do note these contain hotbar, HUD Layout, keybinds and character settings in case you want to back them up).

    That said, it affecting multiple characters makes it less likely that it's individual character settings, unless there is some sort of incompatibility with the settings due to the maintenance (such as it forcing characters back to their homeworlds if you had been traveling away). If it's not affecting your husband's account on the same user (not just same computer), then it would likely be using the same system settings and show it's not the system settings affecting it.

    If you HAD been Data Center Traveling at all, you may need to manually navigate to the Primal Data Center again (or where ever your homeworld is located) by clicking "Data Center" from the main menu, due to maintenance having sent you back home and your local settings not being aware of this.

    If that doesn't work, I wonder what would happen if you made a new character on a different data center or a different region? There have occasionally been times when logging into a different data center has resolved issues for me.

    I've deleted that folder several times andd it still doesn't work. I can't log onto ANY primal characters. According to the World List menu my char is on Ultros still, I cannot log into ANY character from other DC as well. I have an Aether alt, when I try to login to her I get a 90K error. I can't delete/create any of my characters either. It's hard to believe its my PC causing issues at this point because my husband also plays and he can login to his character on my PC just fine.

    OK, then it seems, that the NA login server is somehow borked up and your account is not hacked or so. Unfortunately i do not know what to do in this case. I guess, SQEX has to fix it.
