Why did you force the fishing exclamation mark on us?

I like fishing the old way. I find the exclamation animation and sound jarring. I was golden with the battle effects solution to that problem, but now it's removed? Is there a reason the battle effect toggle was a problem for the development team?

If that change was made for the convenience of the player base, please hear that it is very inconvenient for anyone who didn't like playing with the exclamation animation. If people were confused, that's what Free Companies, shout, linkshells, and these forums are for. We can tell players how battle effects work for fishers.

I personally have never fished with battle effects disabled after they introduced the !!! effects, but IMO there should definitely be the ability to toggle them on/off as the player wants.

There was a whole thread about this a year or so ago iirc. Ppl wanted to be able to shut off their battle effects but the !!! during fishing was tied to it and they asked for it to be made its own toggle or shown regardless of battle settings. So there literally have been ppl asking for this.

You're fishing, what other battle effects are you going to have shown? just type "/bfx self off" or "/bfx self all" or add it it as a macro to your fishing gearset if you really have to. I could understand extending it being shown to limited I guess if they really wanted but it's just creating more issues than solving.

That's a bummer. As a player thinking we have all the functionality we need with a battle effects toggle and the ability to macro your job changes (as mentioned by Fulminating), I had no reason to think there even was a conversation about it. If a player has reached a point where they are turning self battle effects off or limited, they likely have other things that a job change macro would be very handy for (like swapping out raise spells on a shared hotbar), and changing over to using macros for switching jobs would be a QoL improvement for the player. Hopefully that was mentioned? It's frustrating because we had all the tools to solve this discrepancy in gameplay preference already.

Edit: I did search for a different question about the fishing log on the official forums, and I came across an entry from someone asking where their ! animation went. They got a reply that explained the battle effects setting, so I have observed these forums answering that question. I did not come across the larger conversation you mention, but I wasn't looking for it.

I’ve scrolled back through the threads, searched google and not been able to find it, was it definitely on this site?
In fact the only threads I’ve found have been people wanting rid of the effect.
