To Yoshida-san (and thanks Gildrein for translating / posting ,

YES! The Materia System is great news!

Please keep the name and here's "vote" to bring this system in as soon as possible!

It's as you said: It keeps Gatherers, Crafters and Adventurers involved with each other, customizing, tweaking armor and weapons to keep the game interesting (and go beyond what the standard RMT Botter would flood the market with (generic mass-produced items)).

Also, a post like this should go on LODESTONE's MAIN PAGE!

This is huge news and would surely get New Players interested (and Players who left, to come back).

    Thanks~

Classic names from older Final fantasy games are a treat. I would extend that to weapons/items/characters and so forth as well
Classic names will make this sound like Final Fantasy again .

So next up. Great swords and Ultima Weapon (Greatsword) ^^

Not that I particularly mind "materia" system (although aetherite/aethecite/aethe-something would work much better for the game's lore) but this "Final Fantasy feel" crap is going way overboard.
I see what you're saying actually. But in the game's current state with the lack of chocobos, airships, etc, calling it the materia system is a great way to show fans and skeptics that he knows what it means to add that Final Fantasy flavor to a game that is currently lacking in that department. Now, if FFXIV were released without these issues, calling it the "Aethecite System" would probably fit the lore better and I personally would love that too; it's just not what the game needs now. The naming of this cool new feature is important and Yoshi-P knows this, which is probably why he left the door wide open for suggestions in his first mention of the feature. Just goes to show ya how hungry we are to receive "something" more FF-esque.

Regardless, it shouldn't be uncommon for this name to appear again in the series. FFXI included "magicite" from FFVI into its lore, as did FFXII and FF:CC.

    おはよう Yoshi-Pさん~!

The thing which made Materia such a revolutionary system in FFVII is because it could teach the skills you need while also having other effects from the other colored materia (I am sure I don't need to explain this to you but I will anyways haha).

Introducing materia will be the surefire way to revolutionize the boring way of "I hit level ____, now I learned ____" which yes serves it's purpose but materia the way it is in FFVII would bring ways to not only learn the skills you want, but ADDITIONALY be used to augment your equipment (as it was intended by the sound of the original post).

I can only imagine the feel when you kill Ramuh in a long hard instance and then the Ramuh red materia is dropped and the Summoner class can finally equip it and begin to learn Ramuh from it. Regular mobs would also have a rare chance to drop materia for the vast variety of skills and spells.

I can only imagine running through a town and passing by a materia shop where they are selling a slew of different materia for jobs to learn such as command (would be used for abilities) and magic materia would be sold. Alongside it at another cashier, they would sell independent (purple) materia which augments stats when equiped.

This would also bring a new class DoH (if these names are kept after the change to traditional classes) for Materia Crafting.

The theme of this?: "I can only imagine" ... So let's make it happen!!!

(Just thinking of all that actually gave me shivers, reply to this saying if it did for you too! haha)

It would create such a unique and amazing feel, and truly bring a new breath of life into FFXIV, which I personally believe is neglecting it's FF title by trying to be TOO revolutionary and innovative.

    ありがとうございます~~~!

PS: the reason I bother to post these comments is because I truly care for the state of FFXIV, I've played FFXI since PC release, and been an FF fan my whole life almost... so it's sad to see FFXIV not even having an FF feel to it....

I know something like this would provide a "revival" to FFXIV, instead of a "revolutionary" feel to it, because I truly feel that FFXIV should be a FFXI & FF-Series compilation, and then the fact that we have such a beautiful engine to experience it with.... THAT is what will make this game truly amazing... you're taking steps in the right direction Yoshi-P!

    lol

On a serious note, some past FF games have shared similar terms: Magicite has been in several FF games (VI, XI, and XII), and Espers in VI and XII.

Not going to lie...I would like cameo weapons or more familiar legendary FF weapons implemented at some point. Maybe not a literal buster sword, but still like excalibur, gungnir, aegis, save the queen, etc.

What if the Materia system is integrated with the undefined Job system mentioned in Letter from the Producer VIII....I wonder.....
