Well belgian made a post about it, two things will happen. A troll war will start here and in a week the next letter from the producer will say they're implementing AH's.
I rip the axe from the head Covered in blood and brains Leave the body lying dead Ready to strike again
My sword cuts through clothes and skin Like a hot knife cuts through snow I smile as the bastard screams When I twist my sword
Sword in my hand Axe on my side Valhalla awaits me Soon I will die Bear skin on my back Wolf jaw on my head Valhalla awaits me When I'm dead
Viking Job Please!
I thought the same thing at first.
On topic... No economic system will ever be more functional than an Auction House. It's just not possible. People will always complain about the retainer system... and for good reason.
However, if SE had taken the time to develop some real aesthetic value for the wards, along with numerous other features.. I think the player base would have been more accepting.

Like player quests? I remember when I was reading about Huxley they mentioned something like that for the game. Pretty much put a bulletin out with your Retainer and you can make your own story if you like ''My cat is missing but she loves the smell of marmot pelts please assist me and I will reward you with X amount of GIL!''. Similar to the retainer can buy things. But you don't need the item or X amount of the item to buy it just need to know the full name (similar to how players in WoW show off their gear) Plus if it is in quest format it will seem idk more fun? Things always seem more fun with a story. it will also be good for the RP community.I thought the same thing at first.

We don't even have bazaar comments of any kind in FFXIV.. a game where the entire economic system is based around leaving an NPC in a market to bazaar items for you.

Ppl complain because they refuse to be smart and rather be dumb down :P QFT.
Guess it depends on what Auction House system we're talking about...
Market Wards and Auction House
- Both have categories you browse
- Both require you to go to x location to access
- Both is where the majority of players sell/buy their stuff.
- Both require players to be resonable
Differences
- Buying from Search (already a planned feature for Wards)
- Searching items by typing*
- Delivery of gil/unsold item (planned feature)
*Not all AH's allow this type of function.
I know I sound like a cranky ho but, PUT IT IN ALREADY! AH YES!
It's important to remember that FFXI's AH system was flawed in a lot of ways, and other games have improved on the feature quite a bit. The retainer system (I'm assuming) was decided upon because it prevents monopolization of the market.. but the same thing can be achieved with a properly configured Auction House system.Guess it depends on what Auction House system we're talking about...

If you could buy items directly from the search pane, what the heck would be the point of the retainer system? I just don't get it. I can't fathom any logical reasons. Couldn't we just list our items on an auction house instead? Couldn't we have a mog house for storage?
:edit:
Also, one of the main differences is still going to be ease-of-use. Because you still have to trade your items to your retainer.. then open it's bazaar function and list the item.. then make sure that you put them in the right ward. And put them back in that ward every time the wards crash..
