I thought the same thing at first.

On topic... No economic system will ever be more functional than an Auction House. It's just not possible. People will always complain about the retainer system... and for good reason.

However, if SE had taken the time to develop some real aesthetic value for the wards, along with numerous other features.. I think the player base would have been more accepting.

Like player quests? I remember when I was reading about Huxley they mentioned something like that for the game. Pretty much put a bulletin out with your Retainer and you can make your own story if you like ''My cat is missing but she loves the smell of marmot pelts please assist me and I will reward you with X amount of GIL!''. Similar to the retainer can buy things. But you don't need the item or X amount of the item to buy it just need to know the full name (similar to how players in WoW show off their gear) Plus if it is in quest format it will seem idk more fun? Things always seem more fun with a story. it will also be good for the RP community.

Guess it depends on what Auction House system we're talking about...

Market Wards and Auction House

- Both have categories you browse
- Both require you to go to x location to access
- Both is where the majority of players sell/buy their stuff.
- Both require players to be resonable

Differences

- Buying from Search (already a planned feature for Wards)
- Searching items by typing*
- Delivery of gil/unsold item (planned feature)

*Not all AH's allow this type of function.

Actually this is an old thread I brought back. Because we do need a AH and people complain when you make a forum topic the same as another so I just bumped it with my thought.

The only thing I'd support for an Auction house would be a system that takes your Rare/Unique Gear that you have never worn or gotten repaired and allows you to turn it in and let people bid on. But the game controls all bidding and you get what ever the final bid is and have no control over the starting bid.

Because a AH does all the same things just faster, easier, and more player friendly for casuals and hardcore. Let the AH rent storage spaces instead of retainers and it's pretty much a faster system then we have now. Not to mention if they link all the AH world wide no need to look in multiple places.
