    Permadeath FFXIV is sadly, impossible

Today I found out that trying to complete the entirety of FFXIV without dying is impossible, at least according to the game itself.

To start off, the game has a system that helps new players learn features of the game without spamming all the information at once. This system is called the "Active Help" guide. I do not know for sure but I believe it is actually a server sided function as I deleted all my files to test and sure enough the menu stays consistent on a reinstall. There is a section in the guide called "KO" that only appears after the player drops to 0 HP and dies. This is what I based my challenge around, the game had a functional way to validate a player has never died.

My rules of the challenge were to run a new character and try and complete the MSQ without dying, trading with another player, or using the Marketboard. If ever something happened that broke any of my rules, I would delete that character and start again. I thought for sure the challenge would be possible. That was until today when I was forced to die in a solo instance against Lahabrea. I already entertained the thought of forced deaths in the story, but I thought the only time that happened was during the Ultimate fight UCoB. I completely forgot that the developers changed the MSQ fights and included a solo instance against Lahabrea.

This is what happened in that fight:

With that, it is impossible to run a permadeath challenge in FFXIV that can be officially authenticated by the game. I thought about buying a MSQ skip and checking if that was possible but it just ruined the original goal of the challenge.

Hmph. Yours was always a vain struggle. - Lahabrea

I think forced death in battles should not count towards the permadeath. If anything, within the context of permadeath, it's actually more immersion!

Most of my friends were saying that I should just not count it, but I wanted to attempt the challenge only because of the Active Help feature. If anyone doubted me I could pull it up and prove that I never died.

Make it BA/DSR rules, you can't revive by any means, but being restored to 100% HP isn't reviving, thus bypassing the limitation, Hydaelyn merely, uhh... Healer LB3'd you from a distance... somehow... we know she was a WHM, or the Ancient equivalent of one, so sure it counts.

I share the same thoughts others do. You should not count forced losses because you can do nothing about them. . It's sadly, just part of the overarching story. Now, dying inside of a dungeon because your healer fell asleep at the wheel? Well, GG

I agree as well. These are scripted moments and are unavoidable, I can think of at least two others in the game that you'll have to contend with. Technically you're not even dying, since doing so respawns you in a citystate or resets the duty you were in. This is your run, you make the rules. If you were having fun with it, don't get in your own way.

    Scripted Deaths don't count.

Say you're doing a 100% No-Deaths Completion of Elden Ring.
You HAVE to die to St. Trina to get that 100% but it wouldn't and shouldn't count.

Doing MSQ without dying, using MB or trading is easy. I wouldn't see it as worth a stream challenge or something.

I actually agree with you on this, but MSQ was just the first step.

I wanted to do MSQ, then make other goals of doing Savage tiers or even try and do an Ultimate.
