Y'know, I kinda hope more and more people will keep parroting the "go play other game lol"-mantra so Yoshi-P will have to do more of these in the future. :P

Incorrect again.They are correct though.
The Tomestone cap is pure stretching of content same as the weekly raid lockout. Every Raider will tell you this.
It’s just there to have you subscribed longer because no matter what you say people WANT the tomestone gear even if they don’t do the harder content amd the devs WANT you to be subscribed as long as possible.
The normal playerbase gears up slowly without stress but they absolutely do gear up without spending ingame money for crafted gear.
It’s the same as the system in gacha games, just there keep you from completing everything too fast.
Money is the answer.
While any company requires money to function (wow, big surprise) if money was their sole motivator Yoshi-P would never say it's acceptable to take breaks.
What SE is doing is not motivated primarily by money, but SE likes to self-impose as your "parent" and tell you how much you can or cannot play so you don't burn out. It's a practice that SE should drop since their player base is spinning around 30 y.o on average.
As for crying that SE held you, hostage, against your will, it's the equivalent of stubbing your toe and then blaming the furniture for being in your way..
Well, isn’t the main reason for weekly loot lockouts and tomestone caps rather self-evident? As others have already said in this thread, they’re there to artificially prolong content and keep people subbed and paying longer. There is absolutely no reason for the tome cap even to exist in the first place. So what I want to farm 24/7 and gear all of my roles with BiS that has actually no 'real' value beyond fun and doing the fights using different roles.
How is it different from logging in 1 day/ week vs being active and not logging in after for a time? I would very much like the developer not to treat me like a child who needs their hand constantly being held and told what I am and not allowed to do with my own damn time and money.
But I think another big reason is that without hard brakes on weekly progression, there is concern that some people (not saying you or anyone else posting here) would no life this game to the point of literal death. Which has actually happened with other online games. Source: https://www.thegamer.com/15-people-w...g-video-games/
Even if you and 99.9% of adult players have self control, it only takes one gamer who doesn’t to make the news and no game publisher wants that kind of negative publicity or a lawsuit alleging a family member died while playing their game.
I remember FF11 and FF14 1.0 had a disclaimer on login to not forget your family, friends, school, work etc. IIRC that disclaimer went away in ARR with the advent of weekly loot lockouts and tomestone caps.
Natural selection is what I call it.
WoW had multiple instances where people died from playing too much. Did that affect the popularity or the brand? Not really. Blizzard did get into hot waters but not over people overdosing with their game.
Are you… for real?Incorrect again.

“Parenting us?”
No they are not. It’s a pure stretching of content. Nothing more.
It’s not even a bad thing but stop pretending it is something else.
I actually had quite a bunch of text here explaining the whole “take a break” thing but other people have already said that enough.
Honestly I give up.
You are either a troll or one of the biggest defenders I have seen here.
Yoshida is a business man and not your friendly father figure.
He wants your money and good PR.
If you truly think he just wants the best for you out of his heart then I just want to say:
Be careful out there in the world.

Give me 1 rational solid reason why you don't unsub and return when the tier is unlocked.
I get it, personal accountability doesn't come easy and it's much easier to blame everyone else instead of taking a hard look at yourself.
I did unsub. It runs out on 11th November and from what I have seen I won’t return before December at the earliest.
I give you even more.
I haven’t bothered in a while with capping my tomestones and often just skip my roulettes.
I go weeks without playing this game.
But just because I do that I can still see the system for what it is and that it is bothering those who want to play.
So what now?
Lol guys come on now, you can spot trolls a mile away.
And that's perfectly fine. When one leaves a statement like that, by itself, it indeed gives the impression of indifference or the false benevolence you mentioned. However, I understood it as him trying to say, "Hey, if the content doesn’t appeal to you or is too demanding so that you need a break, take it without the fear of missing out or falling behind other players." Which, in my opinion, isn’t the worst mentality to have.
However, you’re also right—if I’m offering a live-action service like an MMO, I have to keep fill it with live; otherwise, people will wander off. And if they then start other MMOs and even form emotional attachments to the game or the people they meet, the likelihood of them returning is, as to be expected, quite low. And no responsible operator would want that.
This lack of risk-taking and insistence on old patterns isn’t unique to SQE, though. I’ve noticed it with many Japanese companies. Even major brands like Pokémon, which have been receiving more and more criticism for over a decade now, prefer to stick to their old formulas. So I’d be cautiously pessimistic about expecting any major steps forward. If you have positive examples, feel free to share them with me. I’d rather not be proven right in this case, because I do believe in the future of FFXIV—or, more accurately, I very much hope for it.
Where did I say I want criterion dungeons, exactely?Nothing is really being missed here. You want criterion type content. It exists in the game (called criterion). You say you don't want it even though you explained it as a piece of content you would like. It exists in the game. You haven't done it before. You say it doesn't fit what you want, but you haven't done it. The only troll is you.
I said I want savage versions of the REGULAR 4-player dungeons, the one's we got 13 of in ShB and EW, 18 in HW and 15 in SB, not the 3 criterion dungeons.
If your only response to this is parroting "Hurr you didn't play it" then please, save us both the time and don't even bother typing.
So if you are unsubbed why are you terminally online in this forum? Gotta fill your time with something I guess.I did unsub. It runs out on 11th November and from what I have seen I won’t return before December at the earliest.
