Nono, they are prepared for you to not log in when there is nothing for you to do anymore. No one is saying anything about dropping your sub. Every month unsubscribed does hurt their finances, in the long run.The guy i responded to thinks he's punishing them by not subbing every month, when they are clearly prepared for such. They are far from hurting for money. SE actually spends significant time on testing. If you want to hurt them in the pocketbook you'll have to do better than unsubbing for a few months.
RIP Viper 28/06/2024 - 30/07/2024. It was a fun month.
SE would never allow Yoshida to make such a statement because it's basically tossing them under the proverbial bus. People need to remember Yoshida's actual job is PR management. At least when it comes to public events like Live Letters and Fanfest. Outright admitting a patch is relatively lacking in content a week before it's set to release is a very poor way to advertise the game. He's going to make everything seem better than it likely is because, well, the point is to keep people long enough to continue their sub. It's the actual reason they drip feed content. While this game doesn't have FOMO for the most part, the fact content has such a steep decline in interest after the initial release is its own form of FOMO. And they absolutely take advantage of it.I wish they'd just address the state of the game, and the problems they are currently facing internally in the live letter. A little transparency would go a long way. It really seems like they might be super short staffed if the content is this dry. If Yoshi came out and told us "I've read all of the feedback, I know the content isn't as much as we used to put out but actually a lot of the funds are being used by SE for other stuff and we're trying to get a bigger budget to hire on more folks to create the quality the fans are used to. I hope to have updates for you by X date so please hand in there until then." I'd have a little more respect for him. But this live letter was another insult to our intelligence and a spit in the face.
"Stand in the ashes of a trillion dead souls and ask the ghosts if honor matters."
"The silence is your answer."
Admitting that you're doing a shit job isn't exactly a good thing. As others have noted as well, Yoshi P is moreso referring to not playing the game generally, not necessarily specifically unsubbing or for how long.
Also Yoshi P being mentally prepared doesn't equate to SE being prepared. You can't just coast indefinitely-- that's why they have Yoshi P making other games, lmao. SE is using your money to make other games. My point being what they are prepared for..is for enough of you to keep naively funding their flops.
And I like FFXVI btw. But I don't like it enough to deny XIV the resources it needs to be properly developed and updated. To be clear, CS3 is working on some other new title post XVI.

Mao startings to prepare to put Mao money where Mao mouth is. Mao going through process of reactivatings Mao WoW account whats Mao not played for many years. Mao can see writings on wall. SE gonna slow-walk themselves over cliff.
Even Mao saying that is scary... but its true...
I think everyone more or less agree it's a good thing you can choose to leave for a while, and when you come back, not have an insane amout to catch up to. That's positive. But to use that as an excuse against people that want to play the game but don't have retention content anymore (which FFXIV ALWAYS had until ShB - you can disagree on the quality of it, but not its existence). But more than the bleed in players, it's the reputation and how the public see the game that is a stake. A game abandonned by it's most loyal playerbase that was permanently subbed for years is a game in a bad state. That's what's at stake here.
During the ShB media tour, 2 french streamers had an interview with Yoshi-P where they discussed about the subs where Yoshi-P said that sub wise, they always had a peak at patch, then it fell down to normal lvl (can't find the interview anymore but there is nothing very surprising here). Every patch. The problem right now is that those people that are the normal lvl are the ones very unhappy right now. Right now, it's the base that keep the population healthy that is leaving. The people that make it so a new player can begin anytime and still find people to play with. And to lose those people you have to have done something very wrong.
FFXIV won't die soon (I'm pretty sure the mod players that are not there for the actual content and the cash shop whale would be enough to sustain the game for years), but what can happen if this continue is for FFXIV to be deserted between patch, and get the reputation of the dead mmo between patch, which is the worst that can happen for a MMO (because, yeah, at the core, FFXIV is a mmorpg, and that how it will be always judged). You won't continue to get new players when the recurring ones are leaving. It's the reputation of the game that is at stake. On the long term, is a very bad thing for the game. We're already at the point where people say the story is good (or at least were saying until DT) but as a mmo, there is better alternatives. It will be a long process, but it's the only way the game can go with its current direction. Nobody wants to see that, I think the reason we're discussing this is because we all want FFXIV to thrive.
It's ironic ARR saw the light of day because they could not have a main line FF considered as a complete failure, but 10 years later they have no problem with FFXIV having the reputation of the game that dig its own grave when it was at its highest. Which is even worse in a way. Failure can happen, but having a good product and killing it is also bad for SE reputation, that doesn't need that, especially when that product is the thing that carry your company.

Exactly my complaint when I asked here in the forum if the devs are meanwhile completely out of touch.7.1
MSQ and 1 dungeon
Ex Sphene
1 Alliance
1 Unreal (limited to doing twice a week
Beast tribe hand ins/
MAHJONG VOICED POG
7.11
1 Ultimate
7.15
Custom deliveries hand ins
wachameqimeqi
hildibrand
One week later (unless it's pushed back:
1 "Savage" Alliance
7.16
Role quests...
This team lmfao, got to admire how deep of a hole they'll dig.
When I just think about how much "real game experience" we could get when spending our sub money on other games
I feel very dizzy. I am sad to say it, but FFXIV is meanhwile just an expensive trial simulator with 3d chat. :c

They have been and will continue to retool this game as a single player game. The MSQ is nearly completely soloable with trusts except for trials but that will come soon enough.
The moment they started the trusts, I knew they were working on the end of life for the game while they still had resources. Make no mistakes, this game is being prepared for maintenance mode and the formula will remain.
I love this game and it has done wonderful things for my life but even I can read the writing on the wall.
Yeah it just hurts... to think what we had...
Remember we've been told that Dawntrail will have more content than the other ones... Sure maybe in 1.5 year from now.
