7.1 - More Wuk Lamat

For the poeople saying that up to 7.3 is locked in, Yoshi-P had an interview this month at PAX Australia where he seems to be saying the opposite.

The other factor was Wuk Lamat. She’s a very complex character, and she even has a bit of a complex about herself. Unfortunately, we didn’t delve very far into the background of why she had those feelings, so it appeared as if she left a negative impression. We accept that feedback. I feel a little sorry that we weren’t able to properly depict her. We may have been able to make her more straightforward, so we’re pushing her in the forefront as this character. But again, we’re going to be reflecting that learning into [content patch 7.1] and onward, we’re hoping that we can show more of what makes Wuk Lamat so great, and I’m hoping that we can regain from there.

Seems like they have decided that the players who dislike Wuk Lamat are wrong and only don't like her because she wasn't given proper development, so they intend to angle 7.1 and onward to correct that by having more of her.

Seems like they have decided that the players who dislike Wuk Lamat are wrong and only don't like her because she wasn't given proper development, so they intend to angle 7.1 and onward to correct that by having more of her.

For me it reads more like that the patches will still have Wuk Lamat in them like planned beforehand. He is now trying to sell it as something “good” or tries to spin some kind of reason for that instead of saying what it actually is.

Maybe I am naive in that regard or completely wrong but I don’t read out of it that they changed anything in the 7.1 story or my English is just not good enough to pick up a specific wording.

I agree though that his answers are as tone deaf as always and are a huge pile of poop on all the feedback.

I don’t know. I just want to think positive for the moment and give them the benefit of the doubt. If I give up here and now I don’t know if I will ever return.
If the story stays abysmal in the future or that furry gets even more center stage after 7.3 then I will leave this game but until then I wait and give them a chance.

This is very much the typical Yoshi "Don't retire from our game please" PR reply from every interview since DT launch that I have come to expect.

Not surprised. I expect appearances to say the least but if I get the inkling that she's going to consume the story as obnoxiously as she did in 7.0 then I am skipping the story, and I will continue to skip the story indefinitely until they elect to actually give some proper development.

It's pretty common that they don't have the .3 story finalized at the start. What they usually say is they have a vague idea of it, and as we get closer, the interviews tend to show them becoming more sure of what it is.

So they probably had Wuk Lamat planned all along but may change details of her expression to explain her better as Yoshi-P said.

The main thing is that the development cycle for things like models from concept art all the way to being made and tested is around 8 months, so certainly it will get locked in as we get closer.

I couldn't agree more. There are tone deaf responses then there are real tone deaf responses. Yoshi's statements fall in the latter.

I can't believe this is the same guy who saved Final Fantasy XIV back in the day. Yoshi has gone from being a visionary game maker to becoming yet another corporate-speak spouting suit who ignores all feedback except from his circle of yes men.

He lost his soul and the game is now in a slow death spiral of mediocrity. A real leader would have listened to his paying customers, looked for common themes among the legitimitate feedback, and made necessary changes regardless of whether or not things were already completed.

I used to own a restaurant and when my customers were dissatisfied with a something, I'd address it. Because that's what a successful businessman does. I didn't dig in my heels and start gaslighting my customers like they didn't know what they were talking about. That would have been madness.

Yet, Yoshi P is doing exactly that. It's time to clean house, Square Enix. Either act now or lose your big money maker.

I think that she was always going to become the leader of something, one way or another. It seemed like she would be involved in the leadership of Ala Mhigo, but there was a more experienced and confident individual from Ala Mhigo to do that - Raubahn. We'd probably be complaining about the plothole of not making Raubahn leader if they hadn't done so.

So they made her a military leader instead. And if you consider all the events of Stormblood itself, such as her relationship with Conrad, it makes a whole lot more sense that she continue his work on the military since that's what he wanted. That plot was setup in the expansion itself as if it were planned all along. As a practitioner of the Monk arts it makes a lot of sense that she train at Rhalgr's Reach, the ancient home of the Monks.

She did actually continue being in some of the patches, just like Wuk Lamat is. And just like Lyse, Wuk Lamat will likely not continue being in the story much once we're done with the New World. But we'll see of course.

Another superb story with Wuk Lamat that so many players will enjoy and…….. skip cutscenes. Also why in the hell do they wanna do character development for Zooral Ja after he’s dead already????? Like my guy needed some development while alive and not some shit like “dad bad, now I’m also bad dad hur dur”, does anybody really care now for ZJ ??? Also would be mega surprised if the consequences of us killing the queen will be a story point but I assume they top toe around it because “muh friendship, understanding and peace expansion now talk with Wuk for more peace and taco talk”
