I definitely didn't expect any changes to be visible in 7.1. Realistically, they may somewhat re-write 7.3 and beyond, if they planned to keep WL attached to WoL for longer.

Changing the story would have delayed 7.1 and all updates afterwards. It's not logical at all to course correct based on feedback while remaining on schedule. It's not just "the writing" they would have had to fix, it would have been all dialogue in all languages, all scripted scenes that include any animation. Animating entirely new scenes, recording entirely new lines, translating entirely new material, etc.
And while I'm sure some would be perfectly fine with delaying all content because they don't like Wuk (I don't like her either for the record) it would not make sense. Wuk Lamat exists and probably will in the story for a couple updates at the least. The best thing you can do is to hope they see the reaction to her and adjust the future unset/unplanned content accordingly. Temper your expectations that they'll give up on Wuk Lamat before they have to.

Why not delay it then? We're getting pretty minimal content for 7.1 and then not getting anything for almost 6 months, just improve the content and delay 2 weeks.Changing the story would have delayed 7.1 and all updates afterwards. Plus I thought that was supposed to be part of the new more lax patch schedule is that they would be able to react to feedback like this if they weren't on such tight deadlines?
It's amazing how much other live service games are blowing CS3 out of the water in responsiveness to the community. We were supposed to be the "Best community team btw"

If player numbers stayed stable after DT then SE has learned that they can deliver absolute subpar quality story and gameplay and get away with it. All veteran devs have been assigned to new projects and FF14 is now run by a bunch of recently hired devs / interns that will pump out content according to the "FF14 formula".
They will not care about any feedback as long as the game keeps printing money. I expect them to just invest the bare minimum of effort in FF14 from now on to keep the whales happy while holding the house owners hostage so extra money FF14 makes can finance the next Forspoken.

LMAO Complained about having to wait until November but now you want it to be different so it would take even longer.
You think they would just drop the main NPC of DT after YEARS of planning and making this expansion?
Oh great, Poochie did not die on the way back to her home planet...
The vast majority of players hate this character and this type of story. The player numbers reflect this, so let's give them more of the same.
It's honestly a genius idea if the goal is to kill the game.
People saying the story beats were already set in motion and they were unchangeable, I say that they should have foreseen this possible reaction when people didn't like Wuk Lamat and gave feedback back in 6.55 and prepared accordingly. This is the end result of not listening to criticism and only allowing toxic positivity to fester.
These interviews are from after 6.55 and there were already plenty of criticism about the story direction and Wuk Lamat then. This current situation was completely predictable and should have been course corrected for 7.1.

They always do a cleanup in the patches.Hardly. They delayed it mostly due to covid because the companies they outsourced to couldn't provide the assets on time due to not working. They delayed it by a further 2 weeks because Yoshi-P wanted to add Emet-Selch's lines about the twelve and the new world, because he felt the story ended too depressingly without that glimmer of hope for the future of the game after the arc was complete.
- Heavensward saw us install a leadership structure in Ishgard and add them to the grand company alliance
- Stormblood saw us install a leadership structure in Ala Mhigo and Doma
- Shadowbringers saw us install a leadership structure in Eulmore and phase out the Crystal Exarch
- Endwalker saw us install a leadership structure in Garlemald and cleanup the issues in Radz
- Dawntrail will see us install a leadership structure in Solution Nine and cleanup any other messes we made.
Blue Mage additions, a Chaos Raid, an alliance raid, an extreme trial, an ultimate raid, a new dungeon, a custom delivery, a quest for doing all role quests, hildibrand, probably a beast tribe(?) and more MSQ.
If that's minimal to you then maybe it's just that not much content interests you in this game.
They tend to spend a lot of time coming up with the story (X.0 to X.3 patch) then start developing it after the X.3 patch. So by the time of 6.55 they'd already made most of it...
I remember right before Shadowbringers released, they said "5.1 is ready". But they still kept the 3.5 month delay on it because they use that time to thoroughly test it and iron out bugs. This current situation was completely predictable and should have been course corrected for 7.1.

The endwalker delay was literally said by Yoshida to be because he wanted to rewrite the Emet and Hythlodaeus scene in Ultima Thule. Covid was not a part of that delay. They always do a cleanup in the patches.Hardly. so they absolutely can make changes even at the last minute, and they can get those script changes voiced and animated when they want to.
Also lets be clear, the 7.1 content is weak, it's a bunch of raid content and then a single dungeon and an hour of MSQ content. If you don't raid and aren't an ff11 fanboy, there is nothing new to do in 7.1.
