I dont understand why FF 14 has the worst events from all the MMO's I've played
Its like they dont bother at all to make it good. WoW does it better, Guild Wars does it better, RIFT DOES IT BETTER!!!! it blows my mind that we cant get a good holiday event with fun activities... I'm so close on unsubing from this game. im tired of the lazy crap

Look, pal. This ain't your grandpa's MMO. This is Final Fantasy XIV. If you want to play a real game, there are tons of options out there. We subscribe to Final Fantasy XIV so we can feel proud knowing we chose the right side of history. You know what other MMOs have? Bobby Kotick. Paintings of fruit bowls. Microtransactions. Anticheat. And worst of all? Those games don't even respect your time. Yep, that's right. But FFXIV does. For just $13 a month, you can play all the other MMOs you want as long as they're free. And you can be on the right side of history, all at the same time. How else can you prove your superiority online? With FFXIV, you are superior, and everyone knows it. All you have to say is "but WoW", and flocks of unwashed peasants bow at your feet. Mention how Yoshi-P cried that one time and the peasants will start crying too. Content? We don't need content. We have fans, and that's enough for Square Enix.

I think the issue is that SE only ever thinks about making everything story-driven because of how it's a "story-driven game". At almost the complete expense of action and actually doing things.

So when there's an event, their main concern is making a sob story where we have to feel sorry for someone and heroicly help give them confidence to achieve something relevant to the event. At the end of that story we're meant to feel all happy and clap and it plays a victory sound of some form.

I'm sure this works for, say, someone who literally only has time for seasonal events due to a busy work life and wants a little positive cute heroic story to get them in the spirit of the season.

But when you do all the rest of the stuff in the game, just being yet another sob story (completely unvoiced) makes it draining to bother.

They could just say "hey! want to participate in the event? go to that haunted manor over there and see if you can get through it without being scared!" and then let us do whatever haunted dungeon they made.

I completely forgot about rift ! Glad to hear it didn't went to the "end of service" road like wildstar ;D

Now try to chill a little and take a step back, ff14 events are just a symptoms of a greater problem that has been going on for years in this game : complacency, at that point they are not just resting on their laurels, they made a whole mattress + blanket out of them.

In a recent interview Yoshi P even admitted that he assumed Dawntrail's reception from the player base would be mixed and to be honest when i read that, coming from someone so experienced at mitigating bad PR, I easily translated that to "I thought it was kind of bad".

Then why launching it ? Why not correcting what he thought wasn't good enough ? Why was that even a thing in the first place ? Aren't he and a few others supposed to supervise the new people's work ? If that's not complacency then i don't know what it is.

It's pretty obvious that they mainly rely on the influx of new players, because let's be honest, if you are one and enjoy hub simulator with very surface level Mmorpg open world content, you'll have a field trip for around 2 years with this game ... unless you're a neet that is.

Current ff14 "success" formula : shit load of content for new players + cash shop + sunk cost fallacy and fear of missing out for older players until they quit. I'd say it's a pretty decent "min/maxing" way of doing thing when you want to minimize cost and maximize revenue but in my opinion it's slowly eroding peoples good will toward this game.

At least it did for me, i went from "letting my sub running even when i didn't play much + buying stuff from the stores" to "only subbing every 1 month and a week to keep my house" and finally "meh i don't give a shit anymore, I'll just pop when there will be free login campaign to do the msq and/or the event if there is one".

I mean, in GW2's defense, when I played, the Events were basically the only new content we got.

It sucks because FFXIV has the metagame, community (specifically my FC), and legacy relevance that I want from an MMO, but WoW has the combat, class design, and long-term playability that I want from an MMO.

I enjoy and hate both for different reasons, and no other MMO even comes close to scratching my brain itch.

This is me currently. I bought a 6-month sub, which was a total waste of money, for the simple reason that I don't even do anything in the game. There is just no content that interests me. I've done all the old content I wanted. I don't raid, there is no point in mount collecting as most are simply reskins (new wings are simply birds without the body), and the casual content just sucks.
If there isn't anything interesting in 7.1, I'll just quit until the next login campaign or expansion.
