i do feel it cheapen their value to have personal avatar, for example a goat defeating ifrit? lol it looked silly in FFXI and would be here too.
personally i feel summoner class need a fresh approach , why not make the avatar lend their power to the summoner and channel their power through him/her? the summoner get new look and fight physically instead of standing in the back.

I feel the same way, which is why I like it that they are getting lesser primals as summons. Though I can definitely see it being cool where lets say the summoner job gets summons but the class gets manifestations letting them use skills like garuda's splitstream or something.

In FFXI It makes sense that a Summoner summoning an avatar would only be able to summon it as the same strength as the Summoner. Summoners are basically channeling the avatar into the world through them, hence the constant MP drain and the avatar being the same level as the Summoner.
