[Suggestion] show only status effects from others players, if they cannot stack

    Hello everyone,

I'd like to suggest a setting that would go a long way towards making target status info cleaner. Currently, you can only toggle between showing or hiding other people's stat effects. This is actually very inefficient, as I lose the ability to delay important debuffs like Mug's Vulnerability Up when it is already applied by others. On the other hand, I could care less if my co-healer applies the sixth Aero II (which, to top it all off, is shown individually).
So what I would really like is an option to clean up the mess so I can see all the status effects I have applied plus the ones that cannot stack on a target.

I hope this is something that other people in the community would appreciate and we can get this to the attention of the devs. :3

    Kindly yours
    - Liam

Definitely agree with this comment; it would be a major help if there was an option to only display the buffs or debuffs by other players which cannot be stacked.

I've disabled the display of other people's buffs because it makes it hard for me to make out which buffs or debuffs (such as Aero II) are currently mine, especially in larger-scale content like alliance raids where one boss may have dozens of buffs and debuffs active at once.

However, that is at the expense of knowing if I myself may be overwriting other players' non-stackable debuffs on the boss, which can lead to very wasteful and uncoordinated overall usage of these actions on everyone's part, since depending on which of the two options you use it is either very difficult or outright impossible to tell which non-stackable debuffs from other players are currently active.

I believe that—especially in anticipation of the upcoming savage alliance raids or even in consideration of pre-existing hardcore large-scale content like BA and DRS (but also all hardcore content in general due to cross-class actions such as Addle, Reprisal, and Feint)—such an option as Liam suggested would be a great addition, which I have been hoping for for some time and would love to see implemented in the future!

Is that a suggestion or already a thing which I missed? :3

Personally I want to see all the debuffs on a target, but I'd like to see them stack into a single icon for those other than yours, perhaps with a big stack number somewhere to show how many there is. This would actually be super handy in Frontlines as well.

That's actually a whole different story, but I guess it is not stacked because of the different timers. Usually stacked stats wear of at once and you would need another hint or something which says: "hey, this status is stacked but each stack wears off at his own timing". I can see why this is a problem for designing a clean UI.

You wouldn't see the countdown on a stacked icon unless hovering over it to list all of the timers for example. Or you'd see the longest timer of them all, while seeing the stack amount slowly going down as the others vanish, or go up (with the updated timer) whenever one is refreshed.

Well, I still think that's a completely different story and should be discussed in its own thread. There is still the issue of how to differentiate between status effects that stack and wear off at the same time, and those that wear off independently. This is a bigger issue - in terms of development - as you have to come up with a concept for these differences and implement all the ifs you mentioned. It's beyond the scope of "show the state when it can't be stacked", which doesn't involve designing an art concept.

Also, from your previous idea, I see a lot of problems with this approach (e.g. how do you know when to reapply your DoT when only the longest one is shown). Especially "hover over" is something you cannot easily do on a controller, which is still a major concern for ffxiv devs. As I said, I think this belongs in its own thread, as it has a lot of ideas to discuss.

I specifically mentioned dots and debuffs from others being stacked, not yours. That would be problematic otherwise..

A certain false moon based TOS violation already has a feature like this available, in fact, so it's totally doable, being as someone made it in their own time for free and added it to the game.
