How to add value to your monthly subscription?

Money doesn't bring happiness, but what we buy with money should.

That being said, I feel like a lot of players are complaining about the value of their monthly subscription (content offered/$).
While at first glance the only solution would seem to be “churning out more content,” there are other ways to increase the value of a subscription (think Amazon Prime: video, twitch, music, books, online storage...).

FFXIV offered ingame items based on the number of monthly payments paid (these items are now offered with achievement points), and SE was not starving because of it.
Therefore my suggestion is to offer a certain percentage of cashback that can be used for purchases in the online store (for example $3 for every month paid).

    What do you think?

3 dollars cashback is 25% of a basic sub. You're suggesting they give away 20-25% of their income from subscribers.

How about they just give us enough content in a timely enough manner to justify the sub we pay

Hell I can barely justify my legacy sub anymore and I get a discount

As a healer main in this game for nigh on 14 years all I can say is that I’m tired. My role has been eroded of complexity and expression for 3 expansions. I’ve watched the tanks do my role for me for 2 expansions and my feedback and critiques continue to fall on deaf ears.

I have no idea who modern healers are designed for but I know now it’s not me. This is the first expansion I’m truly considering dropping the healer role and not returning, so if that was the goal- congratulations I guess

That's not accounting for purchases that wouldn't have otherwise have been made without the cashback. 25% income also assumes everyone will make a purchase, they won't. In fact the majority won't. It's about finding a balance. Would getting players who wouldn't have otherwise have bought something from the store offset the loss from subscription revenue? It's a pretty complex problem which I obviously can't answer since I don't have access to their data, but I will say that lots companies will dedicate BI and marketing teams to determine the ROI for questions like that so it's not unfeasible.

But to answer the OP, most of stuff like that I think can be seen by customers in two ways.

    1. An extra value proposition for customers.
    2. A cheap attempt to increase or maintain revenue.

If goodwill is high, most people will see it as option 1. If it's low, most will see it as option 2. Personally, I'd see it as option 2 because I don't want a Twitch sub (I don't use Twitch) or more crap from the stores. I want more engaging content in-game.

Add ff11 to the sub if you play ff14, like how wow lets you play classic and retail wow with 1 sub

i'd def play that in downtime if i didn't have to pay a 2nd sub

I don't get why that isn't a thing already... there's a reason so many fFXI players play on private servers and that's because the fan base keeps updating content somewhat regularly... I get fFXI is very old, but so many of us loved it, it's 20 years old... take us back to the good ole days by taking it onto the 14 sub price...

"Final fantasy" is a brand (better, a media franchise). There are a lot of "final fantasy" games, and FFXI is only one of them.
SE could give access to it, but 11 and 14 are 2 different games.

By analogy with wow classic, SE should give access to ff14 1.0, but perhaps it is better not to ask for certain things.

This is really the answer. Extending content releases 1 to 2 additional months but charging us the same seems like a bad deal.

I'm sympathetic that the devs are spread thin, working on other projects, or don't want to crunch for whatever. But in return I should not be spending the same for less.

I have no idea how the content we get in a .1 patch is going to keep my interest for 4 to 5 months.

Kind of reminds me of perks players got for subbing to both of their MMO back in the day.

    http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/topics/ffxiv/

    Damn those things were Fuuuuuugly........

But perks such as items are already a thing, but feel they can do better. Maybe do login points.
