Mentorship not renewed, but newcomer status unavailable

Steps:
1. Lose mentorship due to not meeting the Dawntrail requirements in patch 7.1 (expected)
2. Have over 300 hours of /playtime, but NOT completed the MSQ The Coming Dawn
3. Right click own portrait to Edit Search Info: no newcomer status available
4. Talk to the Smith - no option to obtain newcomer status
5. Log out and back into the game: no option to obtain newcomer status
6. Ask a friend to invite to Novice Network: "that player is not a new adventurer or returner" as message

Given the changed conditions, I expected to return to newcomer status, but the option is not available. I'm not sure if this is intended, so I'm sharing it here just in case.
Sprout or no, I wish to help newcomers in the Novice Network.

Solution found by Canadane: typing '/nastatus on' resolved the issue, which means something isn't working properly in all this.

The requirement to lose it is reaching the current expansion, not the current patch.
If you've started 7.0 content, it's gone until 8.0 rolls around.

The patch 6.5 MSQ quest 'The Coming Dawn' must be completed. The character in question has yet to tackle the Endwalker patch quests, having only just finished the MSQ quest Endwalker.
