Yeah. I wont argue that it doesnt have issies. But at least in ESO I see people actually playing the game. As bad as it is, if feels *better* and more alive. Which is just awful for 14..ESO is even worse with content drought than XIV. They literally cut content in HALF, spending entire quarters that used to have content as "bug fixes." They removed content that used to come with expansions and are now selling it in another quarter for money.
ESO has a lot of issues and a player exodus. Unless you just drop in once in a while, it absolutely feels stagnant and there are a lot of people realizing this right now.

You give Square Enix way too much credit. The recent absolute messes they managed to pull, it's pretty impressive. I wonder how is their NFT game doing as well..
I don't think Square has the budget for a new MMO, and even if it did, they tend to have unrealistic expectations with their titles, if their response to FFXVI's sales are any indication. We're riding with FFXIV and FFXI for the foreseeable future. I don't know how the game works under the hood exactly, but I imagine they have the capability to try new things if they really wanted to. It's a matter of man-hours and not wanting to mess with the Shadowbringers formula that made them successful, I imagine.
