I play this game for Story, Socializing and Housing. If i wanted to play an mmo for its combat and gearing, I would go back to WoW Classic, where upgrading to better gear is insanely rewarding and can feel like night and day when you finally obtain that epic weapon or trinket you've been wanting (and then you go annihilate some players with it in pvp). Even world drops in WoW make adventuring in the world and leveling up more rewarding. I feel like ffxiv has 0 rare items in the old zones and dungeons, no world drops. Also there are no specs / talent builds. Everyone is same.
FFXIV players are literally missing out because the devs never put any super rare items in the game that unexpectedly show up making everyone freak out and say "OMG WHAT?!?!? NO WAY!!! WTF! IT DROPPED". Whether it's in the world or in a dungeon, the only "rare" things i've seen in this game are locked to a certain boss. I think what it comes down to is that i wish "Trash mobs" had more meaning in the game other than just being a roadblock. Trashmobs don't even drop gear, you don't even have to loot them, and gear doesn't even have different qualities like common, rare, epic, etc. Stats are bland and as a lvl 90 ninja i feel like i could gain 1000 dex mid combat and i wouldn't even notice the difference because i feel like I am hitting with a rolled up piece of paper for a weapon anyway. Hypothetically, if i wanted to PVE and PVP Seriously and Commit, why would i want to raid in FFXIV and get a new BiS Rolled Up Paper weapon when i could be playing WoW TBC Classic on a Private Server and get Warglaives of Azzinoth, then make everyone jealous in pve and scared of me in pvp as I wield incredible power that so few players have?
I don't plan to ever play WoW again. I love FFXIV and am here to stay, but I can also say that without a major Itemization and Combat Overhaul, I 1000% will not be investing into this game's pve and pvp. I will continue to just do MSQ for Story while I continue to be a Housing Design Addict and Social Butterfly ♥<3
