Help with instant boost from One Retainer's Journey IV

Hello, asking for help from other players, as GMs suggested. Here's the backstory:

I recently had a lvl 21 Thaumaturge alt, but decided I wasn't really enjoying it and bought a boost for a lvl 90 red mage instead. I've already finished Dawntrail on my main, and wanted to play on a different server with friends. Along with that booster, I bought two copies of One Retainer's Journey IV, which states on the store that it will instantly level a retainer to 90, as long as you are 90 on that class.

Since I was boosted to a level 90 red mage, I thought it would be easy to make two lvl 90 red mage retainers, which was all I wanted.

However, with the two retainer books in my inventory, it will only let me set the retainer job to thurmaturge, and says the booster book will only let me boost to a lvl 21 thurm.

I already contacted CS and they told me to contact an in game GM for help in game, and that there are no refunds on store items.

The GMs in game (in two seperate responses) said that the item is working as intended, and stated I should ask other players for help, talk to retainer vocate, or check Active Help.

Then the game wouldn't let me reply to GM for further help as they stated I could do at end of second communciation (it gave an "unable to send reply" error message). Maybe I replied too quickly? ._.

Basically, I couldn't find anything on active help for retainer boost, and retainer vocate doesn't say anything about instant leveling that I could find.

And since my character was boosted to 90 rdm, there's no Grand Company ranks and therefore no way to earn ventures with them, so talking to the retainer vocate does nothing. Retainer vocates want ventures for modern vocations book, which ok, that would mean I need to grind GC on my alt? But then that means it's not the "instant level to 90" (as long as you're lvl 90 in that class!) that the store claimed it should be....

My friends don't know what to do with it either. One had a book they couldn't figure out how to use and it's just sitting in their inventory too! xD

If a store item says "This item will instantly level a retainer to 90" and you're on the class already at 90, shouldn't you be able to click it and instantly turn it into the class you are right at the moment you click on it?

Please, if anyone knows how to use these books, could you help with instructions or any tips? I would appreciate it so much! I only want two retainers that are boosted to the class I am right now: red mage.

Did you get them an appropriate weapon and change the Retainer class to Red Mage, before trying to use the book?

Yep! I set the base job to Thaumaturge and I put weathered scepter on retainer.

Then I clicked on "Increase Retainer Level (lv 90) Item Required: One Retainer's Journey IV" and it says "You can only advance your retainer as far as level 21 to match your current level. Do you wish to proceed?" I can't see anything to change retainer class to Red Mage and I was on as rdm too.

Since I boosted my character to 90 rdm, no ventures and no levels on GC. So nothing for the advertised instant boost to level 90 rdm, still. :/

Are you able to change the job with the retainer vocate and then use the book after switching them to red mage? I've never used one of these items so I don't know how they work, but I believe you have to go to the vocate to change their job

IIRC, the retainer has to meet the job level requirements before you can assign the job and thus the boost...

Get retainer to 50, buy the retainer job-training book from any retainer vocate, use it to grant your retainer the RDM job, use the boost.

I guess it means you have to already level the retainer on a class you don't want to play to 50 - in this case, Thaumaturge? Which I will be stuck leveling up to 50...plus need to earn GC ranks for 80 ventures to buy 2 modern vocation books. Feeling buyer's remorse now. After boosting 90 on RDM on my alt...the One Retainer's Journey IV is really not "instant leveling (as long as you are a class at 90)" at all.

It sounds like they need to clarify the description on the online store. I wouldn't have bought it if it accurately said it's not instant to 90 *unless* it's for base starter classes already at 90. :/
