Order of the Blue Garter: Open Recruitment Season

Order of the Blue Garter: Open Recruitment Season

Like the rest of FFXIV’s playerbase, we want to try to forget about DH as anything other than a source of seals or a component of the relic quest. Moving past that, we can look back with (mostly) fond memories at how we’ve constructed our delicate Jenga tower of endgame success, always consisting of the same classes all the time: from our first to our last recorded Ifrit (Hard) kills, to Moogle, and on through Garuda.

Now, it’s time to look forward to 2.0. The endgame, no matter what form that takes, is always going to be our #1 priority. We’re going to head into the wild blue yonder of Yoshida’s Realm Reborn with the best possible roster we can muster, and in order to do that, we need your help. We want to bolster the ranks with players who are demonstrably hungry for it, players who want to conquer whatever the dev team can throw at us. Whether it’s 8-man content or 24-man, open-world or instanced, we want players who crush beer cans / Gatorade bottles / kittens / coffee mugs on their foreheads out of pure adrenaline when they sit down to play. Or, perhaps if you’re more mild-mannered, maybe you just, I don’t know, say a little prayer when you play, because forever, forever, you’ll stay in my heart, and forever, forever, we will never part.

We’re willing to invest in players who can demonstrate potential, but in particular we’re looking for WHMs who love healing so much they dream of perfect Sacred Prism rotations and have nightmares about Regen falling off. We’re also looking for extremely versatile players who are willing to hop into whatever role is asked of them, and not just go through the motions, but also excel -- kind of like when Ryan Gosling proves that he’s a real human being, a real hero.

The more ammunition you bring to the table, the better your chances will be. We greatly appreciate parses, FRAPS, comprehensive gearlists, and stories about how amazing that one sandwich was at that one sidewalk cafe on the night you met Ernest Hemingway in Paris. Don’t waste our time with one-line answers; don’t waste our time if the only reason you play is for loot; don’t waste our time if you don’t have a thick skin.

If you think you can dress to impress, apply here: http://bluegarter.guildwork.com/recruitment

(We are not affiliated with bluegartr.com; please direct all inquiries to our website or to myself, Carraway Author, or Twentytwo Obv)

Additionally, some of you might be asking why I'm posting this in General. Due to the potential for cross-server applicants, I want the most exposure possible.

    FAQs

Q: Do I need triple-melds / full Darklight sets to have a shot? Do I need to have killed everything already and have three relics to have a shot?

Carraway: The kinds of gearsets you put together for your character show how much you care independent of your actual level of endgame experience. If you do not have access to Darklight, you can still put together some sick sets. Double-melds are not very punishing unless you're looking at some of the highly desired materia for the relic quest (Savage Might, Heaven's Eye), and even then you can use high tier 3s to try to get as close as possible. As time goes on, a lot of gear depth has been added -- Giantsgall, Coliseum, GC lt. weapons and officer gear, craftables from Castrum Novum, etc. There's a huge difference between someone who just wears whatever s/he found on their retainer versus someone who cares enough about what s/he is wearing to try to make intelligent choices.

We have always been very realistic when looking at applicants and where they're coming from. As the original post states, we're willing to invest in players who demonstrate a lot of potential. Although it's far easier for someone to make the transition if s/he has as much experience as us (or close to it), it is not a prerequisite.

Additionally, we think that even if someone isn't in a linkshell that's actively pursuing endgame content, there are still ways to try to see the content. The two methods I've used in this game and in other games are pick-up groups and networking with friends in other linkshells to form groups. Pick-up groups are understandably stigmatized by many players, but for people who can be assertive, it is possible to wrangle people into success. Networking requires a little more of a selfstarter attitude, but good players can be found across swathes of different linkshells. In fact, networking is how I got into BG in the first place, way back in October/November 2010. I was grinding on raptors with 22, Mav, and a few others. They thought I was a raging asshole because I kept on preemptively pulling the next raptor and arriving back at the party with 1/3 of my HP left.

For those of you who feel trapped where you're at, I suggest trying to take some initiative. Send out some feelers to friends whom you trust, make posts about static groups; see if you can find other hungry players. Even if you don't end up applying to us, you might be able to more fully enjoy your time in XIV.

Q: What's the difference between you and bluegartr.com?

Twentytwo Obv: We had a good amount of OG BG members at FFXIV release that went to WoW with us from 11 and then came to 14 from WoW, we kept the name because the leader of OG BG also came with us and we more than had the right to, considering it was us that formed the LS in 11. The neobg forums are called neobg because they're maintained by new members of BG, not the original ones that went to WoW after we were done with 11.

The Bulls, or any team still call themselves The Bulls, despite people quitting, being traded, or retiring etc. Same concept.

Carraway: bluegartr.com is run by neoBG, and we have no affiliation with that website or its forums.

If only I wasn't on Sargantas, then i'd def apply although being a newcomer to the MMO genre in general I probably wouldn't have that much of a chance :/
