Unlikely, DDOS is out of their hands. You could make a ticket to the support I suppose.
DDOS isn't our problem either. We're paying them for a service, and they're having problems providing it.
It's not my fault that they can't deal with an issue they've been having for months.
It's not my fault that they have issues they can't find a solution to.
Why should I be paying full price for a service that they can't reliably provide without mass interuption and disconnecting?
Inaccurate. While they can't prevent it, they can take steps to limit the damage or outright mitigate it. There are a lot of companies that specialize in this type of service. And given that We all know Tuesday, Friday and Saturday are heavy DDOS days and have been for a few months now it is quite clear they are doing nothing.
you agreed to the ToS
I am still pondering how the vast technically gifted employees at Enix , having created a hugely complex online game, cannot do the same with security. if they would themselves, admit they are not capable of preventing ddos, why not get those who Are skilled in the area of online security , and hire them. .. what about finding a way to reverse the sender's ddos spam right back at them?. .. It's getting more and more worrying that it feels as if Enix has Zero capability in their own safety, security.. I worry about our private details being stolen.
In agreeing to the ToS, you specifically acknowledge that there may be times the game is not available for a variety of reasons and that you hold SE harmless for it.
I mean, that just comes down to the basics of how DDOS works. It basically involves hijacking a large # of compromised machines and sending a massive deluge of requests to a server all at once. You can't "reverse spam" it because practically none of it actually comes from the one initiating it. Even massive companies like Microsoft and Amazon have been DDOS'd, and they have far more resources than even a relatively large gaming company. Put simply, the amount of $$$ that would have to be spent to open up enough server capacity to deal with the DDOS for the very minimal windows of time it's actually occurring is just not feasible (and nothing stops the one doing the DDOS from simply increasing the amount of data they send until it overwhelms *that* security). With what we're seeing here, it's not even the SE servers themselves that are getting attacked, but a third party NTT node.I am still pondering how the vast technically gifted employees at Enix , having created a hugely complex online game, cannot do the same with security. if they would themselves, admit they are not capable of preventing ddos, why not get those who Are skilled in the area of online security , and hire them. .. what about finding a way to reverse the sender's ddos spam right back at them?. .. Also, DDOS attacks and stealing private data are two completely different things requiring two completely different levels of sophistication and approaches. One is performing a surgical strike on a target from hundreds of miles away, the other is just gathering a large group of people and bum-rushing your target.
Most, if not all ToS/EULA's are completely worthless as legal documents. The exchange of money for service however is a centuries old protected transaction and SE is not doing there due diligence to honor the trade. Should things continue like this without change, someone will likely want a refund, get denied by SE, sue for it and win. And when that happens the flood gates are opened.
The servers are being denied during the peak usage times denying people access so the fact that the uptime is 97% or whatever the real number ends up being is not going to be relevant. SE needs to do something and do so publicly because this is ridiculous
The brainrot required to defend SE on this is staggering honestly.
How can you possibly be satisfied PAYING $15USD a month. Thats a MONTHLY subscription, for a service that gets DDOS'd, disconnects you every 5 minutes at peak hours, making content like PoTD impossible. Making Savage/Ult raiding extremely irritating, and painful to clear.
You are paying for access to FFXIV. When SE can't deliver that, compensation should be owed.
When SE has DDOS attacks, thats not your problem.
When SE has server/netcode issues, thats not your problem.
When Yoshi P spills his coffee in the server room, thats not your problem.
I don't care if the 8th umbral calamity is happening in Japan. I don't care if there is a zombie outbreak, and zombies are assaulting the server facilities. I'm paying for access to their game. If they cannot provide a stable service, we should not be expected to pay full price. Basic customer support.
If the same thing was happening in Japan, do you think for a SECOND they'd let it go on for months? I don't think so.
