All I have is a private small and that is enough for me. I'm just glad I will be able to get rid of the pillars! I hate them so much and the clipping I have to go out of my way to avoid.

Decorating the medium plot front yard has been challenging, both because of the lot shape (those two narrow strips along the side walls bother me so much) and item limits just not being adequate for the size. I finally had to get rid of my striking dummies just to have the item slots to make mine look half decent.
Maybe I can dream of 10 more items outside now that they're looking into updates for housing. I am super excited about the idea of upsizing my interior to large though! That would be fun!

1st November Part 2.
That more a less means, 12th or 19th Nov for the patch.
The item increase won't be too insane, it'll be modest.
Gotta remember PS4 is still supported and their hardwares over a decade old, too much to load would cause performance issues for PS4 players.
Loading Housing items takes both server and client resources and PS4 is equivalent to a 10-12 year old PC rocking an AMD FX processor and a Nvidia GTX 750 Ti which are extremely weak components by todays standards (they weren't even good when they were current generation either)
As for the upgrading stuff...
If the total price of what you paid for the plot + the upgrade was similar to what a plot of that size would cost to buy outright then sure it'd be fair.
Most Smalls cost around 3-3.75 million
Mediums cost between 16 and 20 million
Mansion's cost between 40 and 50 million.
If they wanted to go the extra mile, they could make the upgrade cost based on the pricing tier of your plot.
If you live in a high priced small or medium then your upgrade cost should be what a high priced of the desired tier is minus the cost of your plot.
Take me for example, My Medium is a 20 million plot which is the upper price tier for Medium... If I wanted to go Large my upgrade cost should be Upper price Tier of Large - What my plot cost so 30 million.
The pricing needs to be similar to what a plot of that size costs or no one would ever buy a medium or large plot outright and would just buy smalls and upgrade them if it turned out cheaper.

Just a reminder that as it stands now, item limit increase is 7.2/7.3, while the interior size has no “implementation schedule” yet. What we’re getting in 7.1 is the “interior renovation” that will allow us to change the style to any neighborhood theme or the “plain” no pillars theme.
I don’t disagree with the idea that those kind of prices should be paid, although I think tier should be left out of it, since tier is based on plot location and not size. But I’m sure people will still want “true” mediums and larges regardless of pricing, if only for the larger yard space and/or location.Originally Posted by NightHour
The nice thing about this will be the ability to have whatever interior you want regardless of your plot. The downside is that smalls will now be just as competitive in the lottery as the other sizes, especially once auto-demo resumes in NA. I think you’ll also see less demoed plots after the interior size change takes effect as well, so we’ll be back to the main problem of FFXIV housing again: scarcity! lol
I’m hoping they’ll see how excited people are for this and eventually offer more layout options, whether that’s just micro-managing the different parts of the interior (Could we maybe remove windows too? Switch out to new, different staircases? Etc.) or different sizes and shapes of floors and rooms.
Like you, I’m happy with my small interior and exterior. What I’d like to see for the interior design is a Lavender Beds style that only uses the thinner, almost flat pillars, while removing the big thick ones in the corners, but that’s probably too oddly specific to ever happen!
I also would like the option for an attic on a small, as I’ve detailed in other posts. I like the ground floor and basement as-is, I just want a stairwell on the other side of the ground floor going up to an attic, about the same basic size as the ground floor. No reason all house sizes couldn’t be three floors, especially when so many of the housing skins already look like there should be an attic up there! I’d definitely shell out some gil for that renovation!

Yeah Supply definitely won't be able to keep up with demand, it's gonna be extra rough on high pop servers like Balmung, Odin, Zodiark etc.
But on the flip side, it would be nice to see Small's not being ignored anymore.
There's many smalls available right now, even on the high pop servers.

I don’t think it’s so much that smalls are being “ignored,” but that the lottery pretty much encourages you to “go big or go home.” lol If someone knows they eventually want a medium or a large, those don’t open up as frequently, so if you see one, you may as well through your hat in the ring, because there’s no more instant relocation, and you’re as likely to suffer through just as many failed lottos for a small as you are for a larger size. Smalls are my preferred size, both for the interior and exterior layouts, but I’m happy that the option to change the interior size will be there for those that want it.
As for availability… with auto-demo paused on NA, there’s not much on some worlds. So far there will only be 1 personal plot up for bid next round on Bryn. We’re not even the most congested server on Crystal! lol Some worlds are at 0, some have like 3. Not sure what the FC-only plots look like, but that’s all that’s available for personal bids.
Believe it or not, Seraph is like that too and that's on Dynamis lol. Seraph has become very competitive when it comes to housing and it seems it will only get worse since Seraph seems to be the world that most who move to Dynamis want to go there. Even the FC only wards are nearly full or close to it and the personal and FC plot wards are highly competitive now that smalls will get to have mansion size interior that many want. Now I will just upgrade my interior instead of chasing a larger plot since I already have both my catgirls and their personal mansions each. I do hope this expansion upgrade also allows smalls to finally use three garden plots, many friends of mine would love that if they could do so. I still hope they allow personal housing to be shared with alts in a FC type scenario with their own rooms and a shared chest and also the workshop, I would honestly relinquish my solo FC plot if they allowed that with my personal mansions.

I'm glad I'm not the only person who hates those 2 narrow strips on the sides! I'm still waiting for wiiiide house styles that actually end right next to the fences, lol. Hingan Nanpu is the widest one because of the extra pillars but I want something that isn't eastern. The modern ones with unique shapes (like the new Country house) are nice but they don't look good on every plot, it depends on the surrounding structures/view.
